Chose to listen to this because I wanted to learn what Dianetics is about. If I started believing what this group believes, I really would need intensive therapy!
Maybe in a few years. It's powerful enough to give me something to think about for a long time. I don't need to hear it again.
This may be a controversial subject, but the author really is compelling.
His depiction of the afterlife. When he meets the sister in Heaven that he never met while living on earth.
That he wanted to meet his biological parents and siblings and that he cared so deeply for them.
Really enjoyed it.
Wish I could get my money back. This is trash audio. Don't waste your time or money on this.
I live in Colorado, so I really enjoyed those parts of the book where she describes the scenery and our lifestyle here. Other than that, I didn't enjoy this book as much as i did the Goddess of Kitchen Avenue.
When people speculate that Obama himself wrote this, I have to burst into laughter. No way! Way too much hype over this book. And in audio it's worse.
If you don't believe in Santa, don't purchase this audio. This is not a book for the cynics. It's a book for the innocent and childlike at heart.
However, if you believe in the magic of Christmas and are still a child at heart, you must listen to this book. The narrator is terrific! He sounds just like Santa should sound like. The story also takes you on a historical ride through the ages. Excellent! I would love to read this aloud to my students (if the school district would allow it....)
I've only seen parts of the movie, so now that I've "finished reading" the book, I've got to see the movie to compare. My daughter and I listened to it during our cross-country move which took five days. Let me tell you, the trip was so much fun because we listened to the story. We actually got to drive through Atlanta during our audio adventure!
I love Wallace Stegner's writing and have enjoyed his other stories. This one, however, is not my favorite. It's about an old curmudgeon historian that writes about his great-grandmother's life in the old West. The historical accuracy is just perfect. I learned a lot about how life was back in the late 1880's in Colorado, California, etc. But, what I did not like was the going back and forth to the 1970's from where the story is told. It was a bit depressing.
Loved it! You feel as though Joel Osteen is right next to you giving you that motivation that you need.
The characters are too "one-dimensional" in my opinion. Noelle comes across as very self-centered and really never changes, even until the end, which ruins the story. The "hero" of the story is over the top in trying to convert Noelle. These characters are just not that believable. The story seems to have been written by a very beginning writer.
