This book kept me intrigued by the story and had me googling constantly to check facts and see photos. It was a really fun book to read. As an artist and someone who is so very infatuated with early and mid 20th century artwork and the world wars, this book spoke to my soul.

I can barely get through this story. The narration is so very bad. The German pronunciations are excruciating to listen to. The tempo is fast when it should be slow and slow when it should be fast. The intensity of voice is always at the level of YELLING. Please... record this story with a new narrator so that it is treated with the respect it deserves. NEIN Madeleine Lambert NEIN

Twenty years ago, a fire ravaged the Dillinger family's old homestead, killing Judd Dillinger and crippling his girlfriend. Most people blamed a serial arsonist who'd been seen around town. But strange things are happening in Prairie Creek, Wyoming, again. Ira Dillinger, the family's wealthy patriarch, has summoned his children home for his upcoming wedding. Eldest son, Colton, and his siblings don't approve of their father's gold-digging bride-to-be. But someone is making his displeasure felt in terrifying ways, setting fires just like in the past. Only this time, there will be no survivors.

95 percent icky, poorly written romance novel and 5 percent murder mystery. There was little suspense and the "scary parts" were mere interludes between cringe worthy sex scenes and family drama. The narrator plays multiple characters with a whiny, sickly sweet voice --- even some of the so called masculine characters. I can't say enough negative about this book. This is one of the worst books that I have listened to and I am even more irritated because the cover claimed this book was "the scariest novel of the year". Hardly.

I bought this book as soon as it came out because I love Jodi Picoult and I have never been disappointed with one of her books. When I bought it, the book was unreviewed because it had just come out. I had no idea that her teenage daughter had written it. I guess this story would be delightful for a pre-teen girl...

I tried twice to read it because I hate to waste a credit and sometimes books do improve...
The first time I tried to read it was when I first bought it. I got to the beginning of chapter 2 and put it away... I had a ton of books that I would rather have been reading. I ran out of credits 2 days ago and I decided that before I would buy another pack, I would make a point to finish any unfinished books. One of the books turned out to be a delightful surprise. I thought that maybe this one would surprise me as well. I put aside all of my earlier reservations and delved in.

This one just kept getting worse.
This last time I got about halfway through the story before I quit in disgust.

Do not waste a credit on this story. Jodi Picoult.... shame on you for putting your name first. I was a loyal listener but I will never make that mistake again.

I wish I could get my credit back... not to mention the time I spent listening. So frustrating...

Would you try another book from Lisa Gardner and/or Anna Fields?

I love Lisa Gardner but I cannot stand the narrator's inflection and voices.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator just about put me to sleep.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It's still a Lisa Gardner book.

Would you try another book from Dean Koontz and/or Peter Berkrot?

I have read many books by Dean Koontz and usually they are amazing.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The moments where Dean Koontz delves into the history of the street or even the future events are very interesting. The book jumps the shark in several key moments in the plot which only leaves the reader feeling disappointed at what could have been.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I enjoyed when the 1870 family would appear.

Do you think 77 Shadow Street needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    NO.

    Any additional comments?

This book is disappointing. I would probably still waste a credit on it because I love Dean Koontz and the premise of this book is very interesting...so even if a reviewer was saying it was awful I would still take my chances but just be prepared that it won't be the best use of your credits.
