This book might have got a higher rating, but his body count is kind of high, especially when some of them are characters you've come to like. This was a nice listen with a good mystery and some good humor thrown in. It gives you a chance to come to know Posadas County and the people who live there.

The narrator does a great job of voicing how Bill Gastner would sound and isn't too bad on the female voices either.

    Story

If you like books that drag with a lot of introspection and any action or something happening being far and few between then you'll like this book. I liked the two main characters but otherwise it was pretty boring except for a few snatches of action. Unfortunately this is one series I won't be continuing.

Narrator: Just because the words say someone whispered or something was said in a low voice doesn't mean you have to drop your voice so low the listener can't hear what you're saying unless there is no other noise around, which unfortunately doesn't happen when you're driving down the road and have the volume turned up as high as you can and you still can't hear what's being said. Occasionally I could get my volume up high enough to hear what was being whispered, but then I'd have to hurry and turn it down again once she got back to a normal voice. After a while I didn't bother.

Ten excited co-workers arrive at the beautiful Avondale Resort on a remote island in the middle of the Caribbean, having been told that they are being rewarded for their hard work and productivity. But their relaxing tropical getaway soon turns into a murderous nightmare.

    Story

This was a free listen for me and was pretty good. I hadn't realized when I listened to this one first that it was actually the second book. Some reference is made to the first book but it can still be considered a standalone.

10 co-workers are lucky enough (or at least they thought so) to go on a company retreat to a luxury resort on an island where Giles works - who unfortunately had been through this before, the first book. They had the whole resort to themselves. Soon they learn they had been invited to participate in several murder mysteries where they turn out to be the murder victims, and one of them is the actual killer. They're given clues, allowed to investigate one of three places - the crime scene, the morgue or the last known place the victim was before they were discovered. They're allowed to consult with each other after their investigations, which some do and some don't, and then they're given a riddle to solve. Afterwards they are to speak individually into a video camera telling how the murder happened. They then all meet up again to find out who won, who is safe and who is sacred.

Some of the murders were pretty grisly but luckily the book is pretty fast-paced so the grisly isn't dwelled on.

The narrator was easy to listen to and did a terrific job, especially with Giles, the butler who had to explain everything. He was even pretty good with the female voices.

    >When South African conservationist Lawrence Anthony was asked to accept a herd of "rogue" wild elephants on his Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand, his common sense told him to refuse. But he was the herd's last chance of survival: they would be killed if he wouldn't take them. In order to save their lives, Anthony took them in. In the years that followed he became a part of their family. And as he battled to create a bond with the elephants, he came to realize that they had a great deal to teach him about life, loyalty, and freedom.

The only thing I didn't like about this book was that it eventually had to come to an end. Lawrence Anthony was a wonderful storyteller and Simon Vance did a superb job of reading it. You get a glimpse into what it was like living on a reserve in Africa, the heartaches and the triumphs.

Would you consider the audio edition of Clean Sweep to be better than the print version?

    Didn't read the print version.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Didn't have a favorite one. I liked all of them - except the bad guys, of course.

    Any additional comments?

This was an easy listen with a new take on innkeepers, vampires and werewolves, plus a few other creatures and worlds. The narrator did a terrific job and added a lot to the story. Could have wished for a little more romance, but who knows what will happen as the series continues.

In a ruined and toxic landscape, a community exists in a giant silo underground, hundreds of stories deep. There, men and women live in a society full of regulations they believe are meant to protect them. Sheriff Holston, who has unwaveringly upheld the silo’s rules for years, unexpectedly breaks the greatest taboo of all: He asks to go outside.

Unfortunately I'm not a fan of dystopian novels. At least this one was a little better than the last one I listened to, but I didn't like it enough to finish the trilogy. The beginning was good until (spoiler) the first few characters you came to like in the first few hours or so were killed off. After that it was very slow and not much happening until way into the last half of the book.

But recently, her boyfriend vanished - with her car - and her search for answers leads her to some very exclusive circles. It's hard to rate a book that has multiple stories. A couple were part of a series..

"Vampire Fight Club" and "Darkness Eternal" were my least favorite.

"Kane" is from the Nightwalkers series and doesn't add really much to the series.

"Dragon on Top" is part of the Dragon Kin series and was the best story.

The police didn't believe her and thought she must have lured a man up to her hotel room for a little sexual adventure, which went dangerously out of control. Michelle sustained visible scars from the terrifying and almost lethal attack, but pure fear motivated the move from her home in California to Hawaii. She's scared her attacker will come back. This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

    No idea.

Has The Necromancer turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No.

    Any additional comments?

The leading character was too irritating for me. She wouldn't listen to good advice so she got in trouble, of course. A guy gives her bad vibes but yet she's still thinking of having a fling with him as her first foray back into being close to men again after being brutally raped. There were also several descriptions of the black magic that I didn't care for.

Would you try another book from Ilona Andrews and/or Renée Raudman?

    Yes

Would you be willing to try another book from Ilona Andrews? Why or why not?

    Yes. I already have.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The narrator was easy to listen to, but I think she got a little over-dramatic in some places.

Did Magic Strikes inspire you to do anything?

    No.

    Any additional comments?

There was a lot of fighting in this one so be prepared for a lot of blood and gore.
