This is one of my favorite books and the narrator really brought the characters to life. I felt like I was listening to a play. Now if they will only offer the other book in set in this world in audio format, I'll be an extremely happy reader.

Marie doesn't need a complication like Horse. The massive, tattooed, badass biker who shows up at her brother's house one afternoon doesn't agree. He wants Marie on his bike and in his bed. Now. But Marie just left her abusive jerk of an ex-husband and she's not looking for a new man. Especially one like Horse - she doesn't know his real name or where he lives, she's ninety percent certain he's a criminal and that the "business" he talks with her brother isn't website design.

When the story first began, I wasn't sure I was going to like it. The layout of the story--flipping from current day to past tense, back to current, then to past tense again and again--seemed odd. Eventually I adjusted to the timeline flow and begin to connect with the characters. Not being familiar with bikers, this was like peeping in on an alternate world. Now that I've finished it, I'm glad I stuck with it and I'm already considering getting the other books in the series.

I listened to the sequel first and loved the narrator. I'm not as enamored of the narrator for this story. She did a great job with the other characters but I had a hard time with the voice she chose for the main character. The narrator nailed the southern accent but her voice had a slight quiver I associate with older women, therefore I had a hard time picturing the heroine as young and vibrant. That's my only complaint. Everything else, the other characterizations and the plot, were great. The story had several laugh out loud moments, and enough heat to make it a great romance.

When Desdemona Wainwright tries to collect a much-needed payment for catering Sam Stark's canceled wedding reception, she encounters not a heartbroken suitor, but the steel-willed head of a multimillion-dollar consulting firm with the cold brain of a computer - and the finely hewn body of a medieval knight. Sam sees a beautiful, theatrical hoyden with huge turquoise eyes who has the right professional catering skills he needs for his business.

I generally prefer female narrators for romance stories so it took me a bit to adjust to the narrator. Males don't usually do a good job with female voices, but once I got into the story, none of that mattered. It character had a clearly defined voice, a plus. I love Jayne Ann Krentz books so it would take a really horrible narrator to ruin the experience.

He watches her from across the crowded dance club, a sensual black-haired stranger who stirs Gabrielle Maxwell's deepest fantasies. But nothing about this night---or this man---is what it seems. For when Gabrielle witnesses a murder outside the club, reality shifts into something dark and deadly. In that shattering instant she is thrust into a realm she never knew existed---a realm where vampires stalk the shadows and a blood war is set to ignite.

When this book first released in paperback, I was hesitant to purchase it. This author is new to me and at the time I wasn't really in the mood for another vampire story. When the first book of the series went on sale with Audible, I decided to take a chance. I've learned there are books I enjoy listening to that I may not want to spend the time reading. What I discovered is a rich new world, a intriguing plot and characters I can't help but care about and be interested in. I've already purchased the next audio book in the series and checked out the library for the rest of the series in print.

No affairs. No criminal connections. No DNA. No clues. Eve Dallas may be the best cop in the city - not to mention having the lavish resources of her husband Roarke at her disposal - but the Swisher case has her baffled. The family members were murdered in their beds with brutal, military precision.

I loved the series but what shocked me is how much I loved this narrator. She really brings this series to life. This is the first audio book I've listened that was more like listening to a play than someone reading a bunch of words. I'm hooked. Looking for more outstanding narrators but will definitely keep coming back to this one and this series.
