  • Preachers of Hate: Islam and the War on America

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 20 mins)
    • By Kenneth Timmerman
    • Narrated By Robertson Dean
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Like no book before it, Preachers of Hate uncovers an ancient hatred that threatens the life and livelihood of every American. The "new" anti-Semitism targets not only Jews, but Americans specifically and the West in general. It targets our values, our lifestyle, and our freedoms. It is the single most important issue we face when trying to make sense of the Arab world.

Stiofan says: "We need to know about this..."
    "breathtaking - literally"

What this book has to say is so frightening, that literally, my breath was taken away as I listened. The book is so involving I lost track of time, only to find myself stopping because I was unable to go on.

As this book describes, the rapidly growing worldwide depth of hatred for Jews and the United States is so ingrained, and so profound, and evidence of this hatred is so clearly bolstered by mountains of facts, that one comes away after listening with a different feeling of how incredibly unsafe the world is, not only for Jews, but for anyone who might fall into the 'infidel' classifcation.

  • The Crisis of Islam: Holy War and Unholy Terror

    • UNABRIDGED (4 hrs and 44 mins)
    • By Bernard Lewis
    • Narrated By Bernard Lewis
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Bernard Lewis examines the historical roots of the frustrations and resentments that dominate the Islamic world today and that are increasingly being expressed in acts of terrorism. He looks at the theological origins of political Islam and tells us what the Islamic doctrine of jihad has meant at different times in history.

Frank says: "Absolutely Worth It, HIghly Recommended!"
    "Crisis of Islam"

I chose this book because I wanted to know more about the Mideast, and particularly, about the roots of terrorism. I listened to the book over the past week and finished it a couple of days ago.

Tonite I watched the news playing the translation of another tape released by bin Laden. Having read Crisis of Islam, for the first time, I felt like I understood the history and allusions referred to in bin Laden's message.

I am going to listen to Crisis of Islam a second time to try to absorb more (and have also purchased his other book "History of the Mideast and am reading this detailed and interesting history as well).

In sum, an informative, interesting and relevant book - would highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn about the world post 9/11. By the way, I found the author's reading to be excellent, conveying the inflection and tone to match his words.

  • Ghost Soldiers

    • ABRIDGED (6 hrs and 1 min)
    • By Hampton Sides
    • Narrated By James Naughton

At once a gripping depiction of men at war and a compelling story of redemption, Ghost Soldiers joins such landmark works as Flags of Our Fathers and The Greatest Generation Speaks in preserving the legacy of World War II for future generations.

    Jesse says: "Beautifully written"
    "Ghost soldiers"

Some books are interesting, others engrossing and other's tell stories sure to be remembered for quite some time. This book falls into all three categories. What a profoundly moving book! Excellent narration. Learned a lot about WWII at the same time!

  • D-Day

    • ABRIDGED (6 hrs and 16 mins)
    • By Stephen E. Ambrose
    • Narrated By Stephen E. Ambrose

Focusing on the 24 hours of June 6, 1944 - D-Day brings to life the stories of the men and women who made history - from top Allied and Axis strategic commanders to the citizen soldiers whose heroic initiative saved the day.

TomD says: "Great Lead into Band of Brothers"
    "Gripping and informative"

I have to face it, I am only interested in books that can keep my attention and are almost as gripping as a movie. This book is it. I listened to D-Day over a few days on vacation and couldn't put the player down. I felt like I learned a lot about World War II and in particular, D-Day. Ambrose narrates the book in a personal and effective manner. I look forward to "reading" more Ambrose!

  • The Leader in You

    • ABRIDGED (1 hr and 29 mins)
    • By Dale Carnegie & Associates, Michael A. Crom, Stuart R. Levine
    • Narrated By Stuart R. Levine

For 80 years, Dale Carnegie & Associates, Inc., has been training people to get the most out of what they put into their careers. The Leader in You builds on the fundamentals of human relationships to help you develop your own innate leadership skills. Learn basic techniques and find the leader in you to succeed.

Zach says: "the agony and the agony"
    "the agony and the agony"

With such original sayings as "team leaders are the leaders of tomorow" and "blame spreading almost always causes people to duck and hide," etc. this book has nothing to offer anyone with any intelligence at all. Whereas the original Dale Carnegie's books were written with a simplicity that strikes chords and stimulates and motivates, this book would be best used for insomniacs to help them get to sleep.
