R is a young man with an existential crisis—he is a zombie. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he has dreams. His ability to connect with the outside world is limited to a few grunted syllables, but his inner life is deep, full of wonder and longing. After experiencing a teenage boy’s memories while consuming his brain, R makes an unexpected choice that begins a tense, awkward, and strangely sweet relationship with the victim’s human girlfriend, Julie.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Only if they were into zombies.

    Any additional comments?

I bought this title on the strength of an Audible email and its recommendations. I should have thought more before I did. Zombies and their stories, no matter how well told, are just not my thing...

The first book of best-selling sci-fi author Jack Campbell’s new series Beyond the Frontier returns to find Captain John “Black Jack" Geary, the hero of the Lost Fleet series, awoken from cryogenic sleep to take command of the fleet. Geary’s legendary exploits have earned him the adoration of the people—and the enmity of politicians convinced that a living hero can be a very inconvenient thing.

Jean says: "A welcome new series"
"Plod, plod, plod, rehash, rehash rehash"
    Overall

It had been a while since I finished the lost fleet series, where at least the plot engaged. The same stilted dialog, the same love triangle, the same political machinations, the same self-righteous pomposity. Why did I buy this? Wish I hadn't. Buyer beware.

With her dearest arch-enemy, Elizabeth Mapp-Flint, ousted from the Town Council, Lucia, twice-elected Mayor of Tilling, is strangely wearied of her mortal span. For she feels she has accomplished everything; what else is there for her to do?

    W. S. says: "Not bad, not great... Story: 3.5/4 Narrator: 3"
    "Less satisfying...."
    Overall

The women are more wickeldy clever, the men are more foolish, and it is a pale shade of the orignal series. The book goes on and on and on, and I couldn't finish it -- it just got too annoying.

    Stick with E.F. Benson.
