With the paradox of instant inter-galactic space travel while using slide rules for calculations, this book is a period snapshot, a philosophical comment on the human dilemma of survival and growth as a species, a great science fiction, and an excellent book for pre-teens. I listened to this book with my kids and thoroughly enjoyed it and valued the obvious quality of its ability to stimulate thought.
The depth of the the history, culture, and humanity expessesed in the telling of this astonishing life story cannot help but to enrich you long after you have listened to the last of this book...
While the underlying insights into human social behavior are indeed on the order of genius, it seems a shame to see them presented in the context of how we can better manipulate others. Can we not take knowledge of humanity and use it to a better purpose?
This book thoroughly explains the realities of getting into and out of debt. You may already have much of the information provided, but additional information is given and masterfully weaved together to provide a context that can help you to get a good grasp on how you can reverse your own debt situation. You are given a realistic view of how you can, over time, turn your "bad" (usless) debt into "good" (leveraged) debt thus reversing your personal debt situation. From an raw information standpoint, I found the dissertation on how credit scoring works quite illuminating.
Fortunately Mr. Carlin is not running for President, as his perspective is way out of the "mainstream". His cynacism and his almost God-less agnosticism combined with a carefully delivered, gratuitous raunch, can be a challenge to the most open minded of God fearing folks. However, brandishing a super-sharp intellect, and a subtle but real concern for the well being of humanity, George presents insightful alternative points of view, the consideration of which is immensely rewarded with continuous, uncontrolled bouts of liberating laughter.
