I began running last year and grew tired of listening to music. Audibles gives me a chance to hear the books I have always wanted to read.

These are interesting side stories to the Ender series. I agree with others about the music, they can remove that from the audio book altogether as it adds no value. In some instances its tough to hear the narrator over the music.

At Battle School, there is only one purpose, only one curriculum: the strategy and tactics of war. The children are drawn from all nations, all races, all religions. There is no room for cultural differences, no room for religious observances, and certainly no room for Santa Claus.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Probably not. This story doesn't really add anything significant to the Ender's series.

    Any additional comments?

This is a nice side story to the Ender series, but not really significant to the story. The last chapter does highlight Ender's abilities to motivate and lead.

In the aftermath of his terrible war, Ender Wiggin disappeared, and a powerful voice arose: the Speaker for the Dead, who told the true story of the Bugger War. Now, long years later, a second alien race has been discovered by Portuguese colonists on the planet Lusitania. But again the aliens' ways are strange and frightening...again, humans die. And it is only the Speaker for the Dead, who is also Ender Wiggin the Xenocide, who has the courage to confront the mystery...and the truth.

Would you consider the audio edition of Speaker for the Dead to be better than the print version?

I have never read the print version.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Speaker for the Dead?

There were a couple instances where they reflected back on Enders life. They discussed the 'Giant' simulation from Ender's childhood, I thought that was great.

Have you listened to any of David Birney and Stefan Rudnicki ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, the original Ender's Game. Its about the same.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not initially. It was a slow start but definitely picked up.

    Any additional comments?

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s easy to say that when it comes to sci-fi you either love it or you hate it. But with Ender’s Game, it seems to be you either love it or you love it.... The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Enter Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, the result of decades of genetic experimentation.

Would you listen to Ender's Game again? Why?

    Yes. Its very entertaining.

What other book might you compare Ender's Game to and why?

I am not sure. I have never really listened or read anything else similar to Enders Game.

What about Stefan Rudnicki and Harlan Ellison ’s performance did you like?

The female reader who portrayed Valentine was somewhat annoying.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. But each time I listened I caught myself wanting to listen to just a little more. I always wanted to hear what happened next.

If you could sum up I Am Legend in three words, what would they be?

    Enjoy this book!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Robert Neville. He was the main character.

Which character – as performed by Robertson Dean – was your favorite?

    Robert Neville.

Who was the most memorable character of I Am Legend and why?

Robert Neville. He was the main character.

    Any additional comments?

The book is nothing like the movie, but that is not a bad thing. In the movie, Robert Neville (played by Will Smith), is a jacked military man with a science background. In the book, Robert Neville is an ordinary guy who is making by in these extreme circumstances. I really enjoyed the ending.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

What made the experience of listening to 14 the most enjoyable?

The book itself was different than some other books I have been listening to through audible. It's a Sci-Fi/Mystery book that keeps you engaged and wanting to see what happens next.

What was one of the most memorable moments of 14?

When they opened the door to room 14.... you'll have to listen for yourself.

Have you listened to any of Ray Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The last couple chapters have some surprise twist's. I liked the ending of the book.

The Zombie Survival Guide is your key to survival against the hordes of undead who may be stalking you right now. Would you try another book from Max Brooks and/or Marc Cashman?

    Yes. I would.

What do you think your next listen will be?

My next listen is going to be '14' by Peter Clines.

Did Marc Cashman do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

N/A. The narrator only had to read this guide. There was no real story for him to tell.

Could you see The Zombie Survival Guide being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No I couldn't. I could see someone in a movie or show pulling out the guide or referring to it as a joke.

    Any additional comments?

This was an ok read, but overall very bland. If you are looking to hear an actual storyline, this is not for you.

  • World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War

The Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. Max Brooks, driven by the urgency of preserving the acid-etched first-hand experiences of the survivors from those apocalyptic years, traveled across the United States of America and throughout the world, from decimated cities that once teemed with upwards of 30 million souls, to the most remote and inhospitable areas of the planet.

What did you love best about World War Z?

I liked how it was read like a documentary. It has individual accounts of what happened during World War Z.

What was one of the most memorable moments of World War Z?

I liked the female pilots tale of how she handled the plane crash and staying alive to make it to LZ for pickup.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Each individual account is read by a different person. It makes the story more personal.

If you could take any character from World War Z out to dinner, who would it be and why?

The 'skywatcher' from the female pilots story...Whether she is real or not, she is a badass.

    Any additional comments?

This is a great listen and I would recommend it to anyone.

What did you love best about Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter?

The story was suprisingly good. As cheesy as the title sounds, this book was very well written and it comes out great as an audio book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter?

The ending of the book was great. The assassination of Abraham and some of the factual events surrounding it, somewhat twisted to make you really think, "Was he assassinated by a Vampire?"

    Which scene was your favorite?

    See above.

If you could take any character from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Abraham, Why? Duh, its Abraham Lincoln!
