From the author of The Power of One comes a new novel about Africa. The time is 1939. White South Africa is a deeply divided nation with many of the Afrikaner people fanatically opposed to the English. The world is also on the brink of war, and South Africa elects to fight for the Allied cause against Germany. Six-year-old Tom Fitzsaxby finds himself in The Boys Farm, an orphanage in a remote town in the high mountains, where the Afrikaners side fiercely with Hitler's Germany.

Firstly let me just say I did not listen to this audio in it's entirety and this is more just a brief caution than a review. I was thoroughly engrossed in this audio up until I was taken by complete surprise at the graphic description of a lewd act in the early parts of story. From the sounds of it if you can get over that as the reviewer above said it really is a excellent story

Two months before the outbreak of WWII, 17-year-old Geoffrey Wellum leaves school to become a fighter pilot with the RAF. Bursting with youthful energy and expectations, he makes it through basic training to become the youngest Spitfire pilot in the prestigious 92 Squadron. Thrust into combat almost immediately, Wellum finds himself flying several sorties a day, caught up in terrifying dogfights with German Me 109s.

I do not usually write reviews but this audio deserves one. This is truly an awe inspiring book. There is no bravado here only the true life experience of an RAF pilot (Geoffrey Wellum) during the battle of britain. Brought to life by Jamie Glover in a british accent that only takes you deeper and deeper into the story. If you close you eyes you can feel the pressures of learning to be a pilot, the thrill of flying, the fear and adrenaline rush of dogfighting, the Victory and the huge price these men paid for our freedom. Completely engrossing, once started I could not wait to hear the rest of the story. I highly recommend this audio.
