    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 49 mins)
    • By Marlene Zuk
    • Narrated By Laura Darrell

We evolved to eat berries rather than bagels, to live in mud huts rather than condos, to sprint barefoot rather than play football - or did we? Are our bodies and brains truly at odds with modern life? Although it may seem as though we have barely had time to shed our hunter-gatherer legacy, biologist Marlene Zuk reveals that the story is not so simple. Popular theories about how our ancestors lived - and why we should emulate them - are often based on speculation, not scientific evidence. Armed with a razor-sharp wit and brilliant, eye-opening research, Zuk takes us to the cutting edge of biology to show that evolution can work much faster than was previously realized.

"Awful Reader!!!!! How does someone allow this???"
What made the experience of listening to Paleofantasy the most enjoyable?

I just starting listening to this…SO THE STARS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MATERIAL AT ALL….But I had to write the following NOW, because I may never finish the recording…

I am AWESTRUCK that anyone would allow this woman to read this book. Her ONLY interest is in over enunciating. There is no flow, there is no blood, there is no connection between the material and the way she reads it. She sounds like she's reading a historical novel's descriptive sections of what the room looks like that the action is happening in - I don't know how else to put it. "The room was dark and brooding, and had the impending feeling that something evil was about to occur, something that no one was prepared to encounter…" like some B-grade novel….insert those words in her voice and you will understand what I'm talking about. These are interesting facts…demanding a conversational, interesting, changing tone. Not just an unending over-enunciation of a narrative story.

She has one way to deliver sentences of each specific length. Awful…making awkward fits with the material. I just can't believe it. I want to throw it out. I won't listen to it. I'm so sorry…I love the material, so I will buy the book.

It's not about the WORDS….it's about the ideas…please try to make them alive and somewhat interesting. Or WHY should we buy the audible book?

WHY is this so BAD??? I WANT TO RIP MY EARS OFF MY HEAD!! Lol.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

My extreme reaction was that I wanted to yell at the narrator, lol.

    Any additional comments?

I feel AWFUL for slamming her…but I'm just being honest. She's just the wrong fit for this book. I might listen to her for a novel, to be honest….but not this material. Buy the book.
