Great characters, good fresh sci-fi ideas.
Jack Campbell Lost Fleet series without the political commentary.
**Spoiler Alert** The escape from the giant beach ball
Good humor mixed into the action.
Great Canadian author! Can't wait for more on this series.
Okay, first, great book. Scott tells us his life story with career advice and life advice sprinkled in. So it's both a help book and an autobiography. Very cool. If you are shy, you need to read this book. It has some great advice: Success builds confidence and confidence suppresses shyness. Scott talks a lot about being able to re-program your brain, which is another way of putting mind over matter. You too can like country music if you put your mind to it. :) I will say that I didn't like the last few chapters on nutrition. I don't have a problem with my weight and I'm not a vegetarian, so while I can see it's value, it felt like a drag on an otherwise fantastic book. It will not dissuade me from buying the hard cover though!
Potential Spoilers! ***** With so many ways to end the series, the author chose a real unsatisfying ending. Maybe she wanted to make a point about war and how mentally unstable people become, but I bought this book and followed this series to be entertained. This book is a waste of time. Basically the main characters either die or go crazy and the last half of the book is just ramblings about what's real and what's not.
BV Larson's Starforce series is superbly written. The just when you think the protagonist has everything under control, Larson twists the story and our heroes are scrambling to correct their mistaken assumptions. Excellent character development throughout. There's just enough science to keep it real and allows the reader to give into the suspension of disbelief. I highly recommend the entire series. While the narrator does a good job overall, he doesn't do very good character voices.
This is way different than the original Shannara series. It's not as good, but then again, not much can compare to the original. Still iffy on if I want to invest the time to finish the trilogy...
Even though this was written back in the 70's, it is still current today. Well written Sci-Fi transcends time and this one certainly does. The author has a fantastic imagination and the story rewards the reader for his patience.
Definately does not reflect current state of the world. This book is clearly out of date as of this review (April 2008). If you haven't read it yet, don't.
I love smut and this doesn't disappoint. Lots of drama, intrigue, and beheadings!
Warning: do not listen to this audiobook in your car, or you will drive off the road. You can just get lost in this book. Tim Ferriss is a genius, and his lateral thinking is brilliant. His advice is not theoretical, he actually gives you step by step instructions on what to do. Plenty of website references for research, too. Get this book and expand your mind.
