The night the first snow falls a young boy wakes to find his mother gone. He walks through the silent house, but finds only wet footprints on the stairs. In the garden looms a solitary figure: a snowman bathed in cold moonlight, its black eyes glaring up at the bedroom windows. Round its neck is his mother’s pink scarf.Inspector Harry Hole is convinced there is a link between the disappearance and a menacing letter he received some months earlier.

Be Careful What You Wish For opens with Harry Clifton and his wife Emma rushing to the hospital to learn the fate of their son, Sebastian, who has been involved in a fatal car accident. But who died, Sebastian or his best friend Bruno? When Ross Buchanan is forced to resign as chairman of the Barrington Shipping Company, Emma Clifton wants to replace him. But Don Pedro Martinez intends to install his puppet, the egregious Major Alex Fisher, in order to destroy the Barrington family firm just as the company plans to build its new luxury liner, the MV Buckingham.

Top marks go to the performer. The voices were excellent and so diverse, from the Argentinian baddy, through the female characters, American, German, Irish and Scottish accents, as well as the various British accents. The listener really knows who is speaking from the well diferenciated voices. Great performance that truly enhanced the experience.
I was disappointed that Harry's mother did not appear much in the third and fourth books.
I find it hard to believe that the special unit watching over the Clifton and Barrington families was comprised of only four men and, since they had a man watching the suspect's cabin, why didn't they go into the cabin once he had crept out and discover the bomb?
So now we are left well and truly hanging!
