What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The narrator did not seem to comprehend what he was reading.

What could The Great Courses have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Better narration - the subject matter remained a little disapointing: cliched historical examples and sporting references that were not meaningful to non-Americans

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Professor Stanley K. Ridgley?

Someone who had rehearsed the material.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Some good suggestions in chapter 10 - a long wait for something useful.

Yet brain scientists have uncovered details every business leader, parent, and teacher should know - such as the brain's need for physical activity to work at its best. How do we learn? What exactly do sleep and stress do to our brains? Why is multi-tasking a myth? Why is it so easy to forget - and so important to repeat new information? Gretchen Rubin had an epiphany one rainy afternoon in the unlikeliest of places: a city bus. "The days are long, but the years are short," she realized. "Time is passing, and I'm not focusing enough on the things that really matter." In that moment, she decided to dedicate a year to her happiness project.

If you could sum up The Happiness Project in three words, what would they be?

    I cannot.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ruben is reflective, thoughtful, original and well-read. She sums up the zeitgeist and presents it cleverly and clearly. As an observer of the human condition, she has picked the subject and packaged it well.
All of the hard work in support of the theme is also part of the story within the story.

What does Gretchen Rubin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Passion and interest in the subject matter in a voice that has become familiar. The coherence of the happiness "product" (blog/ emails/ podcasts/ videos/ utubes) is pleasing.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    I preferred it over time.
