We continue into the mystical. Grace is even more powerful than her sister Shea. Banks moves outside of the Kelly brothers and we learn more about Rio. At first I missed the previous narrator, Harry Berkeley. But I liked Paul's voice for Rio and Grace, for that matter. We're also introduced to Hancock in this book as we delve into Rio's past. Definitely worth the credit!

    P. J. and Cole were sharpshooting rivals on the same KGI team and enjoyed a spirited, uncomplicated camaraderie. Until the night they gave in to their desires and suddenly took their relationship one step further. In the aftermath of their one-night stand, they’re called out on a mission that goes terribly wrong, and P. J. walks away from KGI, resolved not to drag her teammates into the murky shadows she’s poised to delve into. Six months later, Cole hasn’t given up his search for P. J., and he’s determined to bring her back home where she belongs.

We take a break from the Kelly brothers in this one. It was nice that the focus was on two members of a KGI team this time. At first I didn't like the new narrator or rather was shocked by the change. But Paul grew on me after a while; I liked Cole's southern accent. PJ is strong; Cole is sexy. Banks is able to voice opinions on the sex trade without sounding too preachy. PJ is just as tough as any of the Kelly brothers or KGI team members, which I love. Lots of action. Banks takes it up a notch. Very enjoyable listen.

New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Maya Banks here continues her enthralling series based around the Kelly brothers - six rugged men who make up an elite military group. When Nathan Kelly is finally rescued from behind enemy lines, he credits his life to Shea, whose psychic voice sustained his spirit through it all. But now Shea has gone silent, and Nathan fears she’s in trouble. Can he find Shea in time to repay the tremendous debt he owes her?

This book was a little different than the others, mainly the telepathy and healing abilities of Shea and her sister Grace. I liked the shift into the mystical. We finally learn about Nathan, one of the twin brothers. Nathan is captured and suffering. Shea connects with him. It's pretty powerful and I found myself immediately believing their bond. Loved it. Worth the credit. The KGI series is my favorite of Maya Banks, so I'm definitely biased.

Steele, a KGI team leader, is an enigma not even his teammates understand. His emotions are tightly locked down and nothing can break that icy exterior. Nothing except Maren Scofield, a doctor on a mission, a woman who has gotten under Steele’s skin and threatens to crack that unflappable cool he’s legendary for. Steele is determined not to allow Maren past his carefully guarded defenses. But he has a decision to make. Hold tight and shut her out. Or take a chance on something more powerful than he’s ever faced: Love.

At first I was bummed with the change of narrator in this series but I love the gruff voice Paul uses for Steele. Banks does a great job of introducing characters she explores in future books. We got to know Steele a bit in the PJ/Cole saga of Shades of Gray Book 6 and Dr. Maren popped up in previous books as well as the KGI physician.
Steele is nicknamed "ice man" so no wonder the surprise of his love interest in Dr. Maren. If you've enjoyed the other books in the KGI series, you will definitely enjoy this one. Maren is tough in her own right. Steele falls for her hard and fast and the adventure takes off right away. It's also nice to hear about happenings of other characters from previous books. Worth the credit if you're into sexy mercenary men, action and love.

Book 3 in the KGI series. By all accounts, Garret is my favorite of the Kelly brothers. Maybe it's his character: he's tough and caring, has a special connection to Rachel or how he continually surprises you with his open affection for his family. I also love the voice Harry Berkeley uses for this character- it's the perfect amount of gruff and has a yummy accent. The story is jammed packed. Sara gains your sympathy immediately. I like that there is a gray line between good and bad with Sara's brother. And spiced through the story, you start to learn more about the other Kelly brothers. Banks is truly the master of this. Enjoyed the listen. Words still out on which book of the KGI is my favorite. I think it's worth the credit if you're looking for love, action and revenge. Not remembering as much sex in this book but I didn't have a problem with it. Still wanted Garret and Sara to live happily ever after during the entire listen:)

The last person Sam Kelly expected to save was Sophie Lundgren. Once they shared a brief, intense affair while Sam was undercover and then she vanished. She's spent the last few months on the run, knowing that any mistake would cost her both her life and that of their unborn child. Now she's resurfaced with a warning for Sam: this time, he's the one in danger.

Not sure why I'm giving this book 4 stars and the first book in the series (The Darkest Hour) 5 stars. Maybe this book deserves 4 1/2 stars. Anyway, a very enjoyable listen. I love the Kelly brothers; all of them. And after re-listening to book one, I realize how well Banks prepares us for the exploration of this second brother Sam. I'm a sucker for burly men on tough missions. Sophie is a bad ass in her own right, which I love. I was hooked from the moment I pushed play on my android. And the fact that I gave this book (as I did the book one) a second listen says a lot about my enjoyment of the series. A fun, action packed listen with a handful of sex scenes- I'm remembering the action more than the sex scenes which means it was probably a good balance. Definitely worth the credit if you're looking for an action filled love story with sexy Mercenaries.

I started reading the KGI series out of order. Banks does a great job of letting you know about past events while keeping the story fresh and not allowing the recap to halt the current events. I loved this book: the love affair between Rachel and Ethan was believable; the tight knit family of gorgeous, caring men enviable and the intrigue pulled me in from page one.
Great narrator- his voice has necessary authority and it is actually quite sexy. I like how he goes from character to character so easily. A fun, fast listen

So I'm admittedly a Virgin River fanatic (another series by Carr) and started this series to feed my addiction. This book had gotten some mediocre reviews. I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I enjoyed the development of Mac and Gina's love story. The sub plot involving Gina's daughter was a little painful: though I could appreciate her heartbreak and understood where Carr was coming from at times it was frustrating. Overall, I'm glad I listened, enjoyed the reader but doubt I'll ever give it a second listen.

This was a fun listen. I started it and had to finish it. I loved the main characters Jane and Chase; their attraction was palatable. I don't know a lot about Biker culture but was intrigued. I was more into the romance than the conflict with Jane's brother. But that might have been the authors intention. The reader was good and I enjoyed Dahl's humor.

Over the years, Donovan Kelly has fought relentlessly for justice, women and children always holding a special place in his heart. Working side by side with his brothers, Donovan has witnessed firsthand the toll it’s taken - physically, mentally, and emotionally - on his loved ones, and the innocent lives caught in the crossfire. First, I must admit that I've listened to all of the books in this series and was hooked from the start. I say that only because this book continues in the same vein. So if you're looking for a drastic change in the series or shock in character development, you won't find it.
We learn about Donovan Kelly this round. I love the characters, the drama. I'm a sucker for strong, protective men who are equally sensitive and caring. I also love how Maya Banks drops in developments in the lives of other characters from previous books. The reader is a good though prefer the reader that started the series. It was an enjoyable listen. Predictable but fun if you're into the series.
