I first heard "Harry Nile" on XM. My father and I used to have long conversations about how they really captured the feeling of "old time radio programing." The stories are fun and the voice actors are great!! Please Audible post more of these!!!

Captain John "Black Jack" Geary's legendary exploits are known to every schoolchild. Revered for his heroic "last stand" in the early days of the war, he was presumed dead. But a century later, Geary miraculously returns from survival hibernation and reluctantly takes command of the Alliance fleet as it faces annihilation by the Syndics.

Appalled by the hero-worship around him, Geary is nevertheless a man who will do his duty. And he knows that bringing the stolen Syndic hypernet key safely home is the Alliance's one chance to win the war. But to do that, Geary will have to live up to the impossibly heroic "Black Jack" legend.

Imagine Ender Wiggin with a dash of Capt. Malcom Reynolds, coming back from the stars to take control of the Battlestar Galactica and the entire Colonial fleet. I really enjoyed this book, but I'm sucker for military sci-fi. What I liked about it most was the space battles. They seemed eerily realistic with considerations to time lags between light speeds, true fleet logistics, and communications. I also was pleased to see that he did touch on how soldiers and officers would feel like after fighting a war for over a century. The writer, being a Retired naval officer really captures the essence of how it would be during a battles and command. The reader does a good job with the voices and keeps a good pace.

Oh dear, please oh please change the Narrator! It sounds like he's a badly made robot. The cadence is so mechanical, he almost sounds like he's reading stereo instructions.

Changing the narrator on the 13th book? I'll pass. And if the rumors are true that James couldn't do it... then wait until he can. What a real blow to the fans.

I ended up picking up the novel becauce I did not like Paul Michael's voice acting for this book. Some actors or voice actors like James Marsters or Scott Brick truly bring the books to life. But Paul Michael did not. It's too bad, this book is very good.
