I need an index of where the stories are otherwise you cannot argue with the greatness of Sherlock nor Simon Vance's performance.
A little less sex, a little less overly abstract descriptions that left me wondering what the author was actually trying to say, a whole lot more plot development and perhaps a feeling of a conclusion. I literally said aload "that's it?" when the audiobook ended. I understand that it is the first in a series of books but at least have the book that has some tension and a sense of victory of some sort. My review here is longer than a descriptive summary of the book would be.
I have no idea but Laurell Hamilton will not be the author of it
The narrator failed horribly at any male voice becoming very monotone.
Hard to say since a lot of them may be used later in the series that was just not needed for this book. If anything the queen's second spy did nothing for the story.
Most interesting aspect of the story would be non-existent. The world is rather straightforward, the crafts/professions are fairly standard and to tie in with the least interesting aspect is the premise that a small skinny boy who is talented in climbing trees, moving unseen, and general theft and mischief has any belief in being a knight (full plate armor and heavy weaponry) but is forced into being a ranger (who fits his talents quite well).
The book never really gave Will any challenge, his training was skimmed through and appeared to be quite easy. The drama and suspense of the fighting never really drew me into it and Will didn't appear to really develop particularly compared to Horace. The characters are stereotypical and bland.
This book has an interesting set-up in terms of the world, magic system, and general plot. The problem lies in that this entire book could be done as a chapter or two in an actual book. The events are minor and really do not impress any sort of accomplishment or milestone within the MC. I know its a saga and each book will tell a part of the story but seriously, this is uneventful.
I may try another performance just to continue this story line but if I see a performance outside of this saga then I will run away.
Can Ashly Arnold get some acting lessons? Its borderline monotone and remains at a constant pace regardless of action, and she can only do one voice.
Steelheart has a rather original premise and although I found myself rooting for the premise to be blown out of the water for some good old fashion superpower melee/ neo realizing he is the one awesomeness, I am glad he didn't.
Abraham was a fantastic comic relief brought to life.
Karen could have actually made the "innocent mage" actually do something seemingly relevant to the title or heroic and a villian beyond that of a Simpson's Mr. Burns saying "excellent, excellent" and mocking those that surround him. The set-up was there but the author decided to say hell with it and made the action parts bland and could have just called the book "The Innocent guy who befriends a prince and gets his heart toyed with by a descendant of a prophet" I like the hero, but I expect a hero to do perform the duty assigned. For example, a knight protects the kingdom, a barbarian goes crazy with a sharp weapon, and perhaps a mage at least uses magic in some fashion, even if its the last 5 words of the book. "Awakened Mage" is past tense right so shouldn't he awaken prior to it.
