America is a barren landscape of smoldering ashes, devoid of life except for those people still struggling to scratch out some type of existence. Amidst this destruction, a father and his young son walk, always toward the coast, but with no real understanding that circumstances will improve once they arrive. Still, they persevere, and their relationship comes to represent goodness in a world of utter devastation.

    "Depressing, perhaps, but excellent nonetheless"
    Overall

I must first state that the narrator for this novel was superb -- I can honestly state that I would not have enjoyed this novel as much if I would have read it. Additionally, I have never seen the movie based upon this book.
The story is unusual in that there are no chapters, no names given to the two main characters, and there is no explanation for the disaster that befell the U.S. -- nor is a date given for when the story has taken place. The lack of detail in this regard may bother some people who want to know 'everything.' You simply will have to fill in many of the details yourself.
I think this story will be most enjoyable to those who have sons, or sons who have fathers, as ultimately, that is what this story is about -- the relationship between a man and his boy in brutally hard conditions. The story is bleak, but it kept me reading because I wanted to find out what happens to the man and his boy. I did not feel that the ending disappointed me in any way.
A final note: for those that may be scared off because it may seem like science-fiction because it is a post-apocalyptic story -- don't be. There nothing about this story that delves into anything fantastical -- it's merely the setting for the story.

The Godfather is an extraordinary novel which has become a modern-day classic. Puzo pulls us inside the violent society of the Mafia and its gang wars. The leader, Vito Corleone, is the Godfather. He is a benevolent despot who stops at nothing to gain and hold power.

    "Great performance; great book"

I had seen the movie a long time ago and didn't remember most of it, so listening to the book was a great treat. The narration and sound quality are quite good -- the copyright for the audio is in the mid-80's so it's not quite as crisp and clean as some newer audiobooks, but this did not detract from the story or narration for me.
This IS a multi-narrated story, but this worked fine for me. I recommend this story highly.
