The story was very slow, and if you were expecting a continuation of the last novel you are mistaken.
The book felt .. rushed.
Minor spoilers follow.
The title had nothing to do with the book. Yes they mention a Herald at times, but really it seems just thrown on there.
The ending was incredibly short. He spends 20 chapters saying how El is less than he was 100 years ago then BAM, world shattering magic .. the end.
The 4-5 chapters happening in Cormyr are nothing but fluff. They add zero to the story and just increase the word count.
For a book that is supposedly an ending to a world changing series it barely interacts at ALL with the ongoing events. Again, it's mentioned but not really a topic in the novel.
It's like calling a book "The Home Run, part 6 of the baseball story" and then finding out it's a murder mystery that only has baseball when the guy sees it on tv for 3 paragraphs.
Start with book 1. By the time you get here you'll love the series as much as the rest of us!
You can't say enough good things about James Marsters as harry, either. Beautiful performance as always.
I love the quick pace and constant action, start with book 1 however as you really need the backstory.
Interesting characters and a great story.
I bought this one ENTIRELY for the Jim Butcher Dresden Files side-story and I loved it.
I gave most of the others a listen and I was not impressed.
I hit fast forward thru at least 4 of them.
Probably won't get any more anthology books.
It doesn't get any better. Epic in all it entails.
Start at book 1, and listen to the finish over the course of a month.
There were a couple problems I had with this audiobook:
1. The recording itself was bad. It sounded like it was an old 70's era recording that was copied over to .mp3 format without any cleanup. It skipped parts of sentances here and there and I could hear a static hiss every now and then in the background.
2. A lot of the words and pronunciations aren't the same as current recording. Nitpicking here, but it really hurts immersion.
3. As far and the book itself, the timeline and the points of view jump around without any notice. It skips ahead by weeks then months then decades seemingly at will.
4. Lack of a real ending. It just fades out and you're left to wonder what happens.
If you're a fan of Larry Niven (like myself) it's a good listen if you want to know a lot of little details from before the Ringworld or Man-Kzin novels. But otherwise you should probably look somewhere else, this one will be a tough pill to swallow.
I really loved this one.
Sanderson creates truly unique and interesting magic systems for his works, thumbs up!
5 Stars if it had been longer.
Did anyone else want the main character to die after the first 6 chapters or so?
One of the few times the movie was better than the book sadly.
Won't be listening to the other two books.
EVE universe is SO much FUN.
Great story and nice pacing. Wonderful way all the seperate threads were woven together.
Hopefully the story continues
