Oh my, I would love to know the word count on Deceive and Deceived. I do believe those words would total over 200 if not more. And I don't believe I am exaggerating. Also, I like a whole lot more dialog, this book had very little dialog in my opinion. The repetitive description of the feelings between the two main characters was just too much. The same thing over and over. I feel like the author couldn't think of anything to write so she would just repeat their feelings and thoughts. I did finish the book, even though I did predict the ending long before the ending. I am not saying the book was bad just annoying with very little dialog. It could have been much better, the plot and story line had so much potential. The narrator I thought did an excellent job and I think that's what kept me listening to the end.

This is such a great story. I am loving this series. Fantastic characters. The hero and heroine, Hartley and Alethea were wonderful together, great chemistry. Not forced or fake. Some nicely written sex scenes.

The dialogue throughout the book is fantastic, witty, funny and flows so nicely. The plot and story line is great. I love these Wherelocks and Vaughns with their gifts.

Always something going on, not a dull moment. And the villains are truly villains.

The narration is just great (even better on 1.25 speed). All the characters have their own distinct voices and the men sound like men. Could use a little more emotion with her character reading, but she is still very good.

I totally recommend this whole series. Fast paced stories, all of them.

I am going to move on to book 4 now and am already excited!
I got this as a free read with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and 2.99 for the narration. Great deal for sure!

Wow I am loving this series! It's so good. The Hero, Ashton and the Heroine, Penelope are just awesome, both smart, beautiful and witty. I love her gift! They had some great chemistry, not fake or forced. Some nicely written sex scenes.

The story line and plot are great, I love the "gifts" the Wherelocks and the Vaughns have. There is so much dialogue throughout the entire series. So many things happening. Never a dull moment. I enjoyed all the secondary characters as well. The kids were especially great, and so funny.

The villains were really villainous too!

I totally recommend this book as well as the previous book, I have already started book 3 and am loving that one too.

The narrations is very good in this series so far. Ashford McNab is hit and miss sometimes and these are definitely a hit! (I did speed it up to 1.25 speed and it was perfect).

I WANT TO GIVE THIS NARRATION MINUS 5 STARS! It was so bad. One of the worst narrations I have listened to.

How to even describe it? Painful for starters.
Anyway, all the men sounded like they were old, gay, drunk, and throw in scratchy voices.

The "french accent" the heroine had was so very bad.

A robot would have been preferable to listen to.

Read this book, unless you want your ears to bleed and your body to cringe. I listened up to 28% before giving up and turning off the audio.

The story was okay, not my favorite Brenda Novak book. But honestly, I think the narrator had already ruined it for me, I can't get those sounds out of my head! sigh....

Riches. Power. An ancient heritage of pride. The Earl of Druridge wanted only for an heir. So when he learned that his wife was carrying another man’s child, he was filled with a thirst for vengeance. But he wasn’t the one who caused Katherine’s death. Or was he? To his horror, he remembers nothing of that dreadful night, when their last shocking confrontation ended in scorching flame and cold blood.

This story was just okay. I liked the heroine Rachel, but she could have been a bit stronger character. Nothing fantastic or really memorable about her. The Hero, was just okay as well, kind of wishy washy at times.

The chemistry between Rachel and Truman just was okay too. Nothing memorable there either. The sex scenes were nicely written, not graphic.

There was quite a bit of dialogue throughout the book and that was good. I like lots of dialogue.

One pet peeve.... Why does the author have to not only give the heroine one sprained ankle while being hunted down by the villain she has to give her two sprained ankles?? Stupid, come on with that nonsense. That just bugged me. Like, really????

As for the narration it was Justine Eyre, so it's always a 3 star rating for her narrations, and you know what your getting. She does make the men sound like men and gives everyone their own distinct voice,

I listened\read this book after A Matter of Grave Concern, also by Brenda Novak and it was so much better.

Wow this story was so good, and so much fun to listen too. I really liked the heroine, she was strong, smart, funny and witty. No whimpering whiny heroine in this book. The hero was, smart and sexy. They had some great chemistry and a couple of very nicely written sex scenes.

A good plot, story line that flowed very well. Lots of great dialogue throughout the book, which included some very good witty banter and some LOL moments with her clinical descriptions of sex. HA!

As for the narration. Michael Page did a fantastic job, he did a really good job at with the heroines voice. I am not usually a fan of male narrators, narrating Historical Romance Novels but he was great.

    I totally recommend this read\listen.

    Story

Well, not one of my favorite listens\reads that's for sure. This story would have been better if it was about 2 hours shorter. It was way too long. Too much filler. Too much blah blah blah thinking. Slow moving. Just found myself saying "okay already, get on with it, geez"

There was not nearly enough dialogue for my taste. The concept and plot was good, but the story just went astray with too much nonsense filling up the pages. Then an abrupt ending.

I did like the heroine, she was smart for the most part and witty. The hero was okay. They did have some decent chemistry and some nice sex scenes, so there is that.

As for the narrator... UGH.. She sort of sucked. Sorry. There are 5 men in the League of Rogues, all present for most of the entire book, and all sound the same, and not at all manly. They all sounded so feminine, it was so disappointing. Which did not help the already lacking story.
Sometimes a narrator can make an okay book better, this did not occur here.

This was my least favorite of the series. I have been waiting since April 2014 for this audible release too.

I had a hard time with the heroine being a bit to wimpy. It would have been a better book had he heroine been a stronger and wittier. Sometimes I actually wanted the hero to just leave her!!

I just didn't feel the chemistry on the hero's side for her, it seemed sort of forced or fake. Also, Paul's character in the previous books was so much better, seemed the author made him a bit of a downer. Quite disappointing because I was really looking forward to his story.

There was of course lots of sex, didn't seem to have as much sex as the previous books though. But there was still quite a bit.

There was quite a bit of dialogue throughout, so there is that. (I like lots of dialogue)

Well, all in all the rest of the series was fantastic so I am still glad I listened\read the Mayhem in Mayfair series. Just a bummed this last books wasn't so good.

As for the narrator, she did a much better job in the previous books. Not sure what happened here but the men sounded to feminine in this book. She was just barely okay.

I am really enjoying this whole series! This story was very good. The Hero and Heroine are both strong, funny, witty and smart. The heroine, Harriet is pretty funny she can plant a facer and pick a lock! I really enjoyed her character. The hero, Roxley is handsome and sexy. The two had some great chemistry between them and there was a couple of very nicely written sex scenes. Nothing forced between these two.

The story line and plot were great. There was mystery, murder and romance. Lots of very good dialogue throughout the entire book! (I like lots of dialogue). The whole story flowed quite nicely.

I have already started the 4th book in the series The Viscount Who Lived Down the Lane and it's wonderful so far!

I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series.

As for the narrator, it's Susan Duerden, so if you get past the sing song reading voice she is fine, The men sound like men and the women sound like women, and she does, for the most part, give everyone their own distinct voice. She is not my favorite but not my least favorite.

Sensible gentleman of means seeks a sensible lady of good breeding for correspondence, and in due consideration, matrimony. Which is exactly the sort of advertisement that makes practical-to-a-fault Daphne Dale's heart flutter. A sensible gentleman, in her estimation, is the perfect match, and she's even more convinced once she's exchanging sensibly romantic letters with her very appropriate suitor. That is, until Lord Henry Seldon strays into her path.

This is a really fun story. I really liked the Hero, Lord Henry and Heroine, Miss Daphne Dale. They made a great "match" wonderful chemistry between the two, A couple nicely written sex scenes. Daphne was a smart, witty, strong heroine, not a simpering whiny chit. Lord Henry a strong, handsome, smart, witty, wealthy second son\uncle to the Duke of Preston from the first book.

I enjoyed the story line and the plot, there was a lot of dialogue, throughout the book which was great. I really enjoyed a many of the secondary characters as well. Some funny moments in this book.

I have already started the third book in this series and am already enjoying it.

As for the narration. Its okay, its Susan Duerden who narrates with that sing song drawn out consonants at the end of her sentences. Really wish she would stop doing that. But she is tolerable, much better than some, ie Anne Flosnik who will ruin a book and I cannot listen to anything she narrates.
