It's amazing to me how interwoven our history is. Bill Bryson makes all that clear in this fun book. His narration is great, perfect for this book. It's such a quick and easy listen. Worth the credit or the price.
Light on historical details. I would have liked more depth in the historical sense. It's more like a historical romance
Well, you either love Wilkie Collins or . . . I happen to really like his books and this is my favorite by far. I loved listening to it even though I read the book years ago. This is a real time investment but so worth it. The performances were great, not overdone or overwrought. You'll like it!
Gritty and realistic, this beautiful tale is narrated masterfully. I can't say enough about this book. I really appreciated some of the reviews that led me to purchase this. I'm not going to give away the story though! I don't want to ruin it. But it is very beautifully narrated by the author and Negahban and Aghdashloo. I was transported to Afghanistan by their haunting voices. They brought the tale to life for me. From the very first words to the last sentence, I was transported to a world at once brutally realistic and yet the author paints the pictures with such beauty that I wanted to stay there longer. You will love this tale and the narration. I wish I could give it a ten!
The narration was great -- I love it when authors can narrate their own tales, and Neil Gaiman is a master.
The story is captivating.
Definitely worth the credit!
I really like Kathy Reichs' work but this tale had too many coincidences for me. I liked the premise but I figured it out way too soon!
Who knew! Not me. I thought this was a great story, outlining the life of a misunderstood woman in American history. Was it her fault? Was it the doctors? Or the rampant filth that lined the streets of New York? A fascinating look at medical practice in early stages of understanding immunity and the way disease is transmitted. Equally fascinating is the story of Mary as told by Keane. Top rate narration, too!
This book is a must listen from a great writer/speaker. It's motivational and challenging. I highly recommend to singles and marrieds of any age.
Jenna Lamia is a wonderful narrator and she was just perfect as Zelda Fitzgerald. The story is fascinating. A beautiful portrait of a misunderstood woman and her fragile marriage to F. Scott Fitzgerald. Jazz age Paris is portrayed in all it's crazy glamour. I think this will appeal to all who give it a listen.
Love this timeless classic but what I really loved was Gyllenhaal's performance! Well worth the listen!
