The Mackay cousins - Natches, Rowdy, and Dawg - would do anything for family, so when former DHS agent Timothy Cranston drops off four sisters that Dawg never knew he had, there is no question: The cousins will protect and care for the girls, and their mother, because they’re family.... Five years later, Eve Mackay, the eldest sister, has graduated from college and settled in to life as a Mackay in Pulaski County, Kentucky. She works hard as a cocktail waitress and helps out at the bed-and-breakfast that Dawg bought for her mother.

What would have made Nauti Temptress better?

An interesting story with relatable characters.

What was most disappointing about Lora Leigh’s story?

I suppose, in fairness to other listeners, I should begin by stating that this is not a stand alone novel, and I have not read nor listened to any of Ms. Leigh's other works. I found the characters and plot to be slow to develop and then one dimensional.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator had difficulty differentiating between male characters while making the female characters whiny.

What character would you cut from Nauti Temptress?

    Natches.

    Any additional comments?

If you've read all other works by this author, and just have to know about Dawg's sisters, you might like it. Otherwise- just pass it by.

What disappointed you about On Dublin Street?

I bought this book based on the 5 star reviews and high praise. This book was a great disappointment. I stuck it out to see if the story redeemed itself. Nope.
The protagonist spent so much time on inner dialogue and self castigation it was hard to find a plot or story.

    Any additional comments?

    Don't bother.

Offred is a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead, serving in the household of the enigmatic Commander and his bitter wife. She may go out once a day to markets whose signs are now pictures because women are not allowed to read. She must pray that the Commander makes her pregnant, for in a time of declining birthrates her value lies in her fertility, and failure means exile to the dangerously polluted Colonies. Offred can remember a time when she lived with her husband and daughter and had a job, before she lost even her own name....

Where does The Handmaid's Tale rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Handmaid's Tale is very near the top of the audiobooks I've listened to.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Handmaid's Tale?

Far too many to share, and my memorable moments tend to be spoilers.

What does Claire Danes bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Unlike most audiobook productions, Claire Danes chose to read the book to us. It isn't a dramatization. She is just such an excellent voice and is able to form a unique tie between reader and story.

Gripping story, couldn't turn it off.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I believe I would recommend this book to the right person. It's fluff, and, occasionally, I enjoy fun fluff.

Would you recommend Dead to the World to your friends? Why or why not?

    See above response.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    Sookie and Bill's walk together.

Was Dead to the World worth the listening time?

Yes, it was. And worth the credit to boot.

    Any additional comments?

I would like to make a statement in regard to the book series vs. the HBO True Blood adaptation. The screen adaption really is a completely different entity. It is nothing like the books, nor does it stay true to the characters or stories and plots. Very disappointing screen adaption. Stick with the books.

Would you try another book from Janet Evanovich and/or Lorelei King?

    Yes. It's a guilty pleasure.

Would you ever listen to anything by Janet Evanovich again?

    Yes, again, guilty pleasure.

Which character – as performed by Lorelei King – was your favorite?

Oooh, tough one. King is a character master. Lula would be hard to top, but what she did with Ranger was excellent interpretation.

Did Notorious Nineteen inspire you to do anything?

Yes, I am inspired to prompt Janet to bring the series to a close. She just doesn't appear to have the passion for the characters so prevelant in the earlier series. It's only six hours long.
    Sad.

    Any additional comments?

Janet, it's time for some closure. Out of respect for a very loyal fan base, go out with a bang- tucked away nicely please.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Panther to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print edition, however, I think Scott Brick was the best narrator for the job.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Panther?

I really enjoyed most of the book. My most memorable moments would cause a spoiler alert, so I'll refrain.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Scott Brick brings the characters and essence of the story to life in a way I would have not experienced had I read the print edition. Don't get me wrong, I love to read, I just really enjoy Brick's interpretation of character personalities as well as nuances of plot and feeling that you are there. As those of us who read DeMille know, John Corey is an entertaining character. Brick does a wonderful job expressing Corey's sarcasim as well as Kate's straight man banter.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Again, without spoiling, I would have to say I really enjoyed being there. DeMille and Brick bring you to the story so you can smell the filth, feel the grit in your teeth, as well as the stark fear coupled with well timed levity alive in the characters.

    Any additional comments?

I recommend reading his Cory books in order. It's possible to read as a stand alone, but much more enjoyable when you know where it all began.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A higher rating would require a cohesive story line and orchestrated plot. This story seems to have words plucked from the air to provide a bridge between poorly written sex scenes. The characters were wholly unremarkable, and I found myself turning the book off simply because I really didn't care to know the fate of the characters. I regret the loss of my time and investment of resources on this work.

Would you ever listen to anything by Aleksandr Voinov and Rhianon Etzweiler again?

I would not listen to another work by this author.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator was over dramatic, virtually to the point of caricature.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    No.

    Any additional comments?

Unfortunate and reckless use of star power from previous reviewers.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Perhaps someone might enjoy it more if they were looking for a sleep agent.

Has Harmony's Way turned you off from other books in this genre?

This book was a snore. It was words to fill in between sex scenes, which weren't interesting. The story line was flimsy, and characters poorly devoped. I found, to my surprise, that I just didn't care to know how the book ended.
I rarely review, and even more rare, don't finish a book. I just couldn't listen to another word.
Don't be fooled by too many star ratings, this book was a waste of a credit.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Alexandria Wilde?

I hardly know how to evaluate the narrator, she had little to with which to work.

What character would you cut from Harmony's Way?

    The two protagonists.

    Any additional comments?

I can't imagine why anyone reads this writer. She has a prolific list of works. Marvels never cease.

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

I truly can't see what the most recent viewers can possibly have to complain about with this book. It has the perfect balance: Well researched, accurate history . . . extremely well developed characters . . . interesting plots that move quickly and aren't predictable. This book (and those which follow) is not for the faint of heart. It takes place in 18th century Scotland and England, these weren't peaceable times, folks! They were violent at times, and the violence and sex in the story is appropriate for the period. If you want a quick, easy and mindless read, try Harlequin. If you enjoy well researched historical fiction, this is a great book for you! The narrator is quite gifted, and brings the characters to life.

I emailed Harlan after I listened to this book, and that's exactly what I told him. I have listened to the other books in the Bolitar series at least 12 times each (I drive a lot). Harlan emailed me back and told me others have told him the exact opposite (his mommy?) and he thought it just depended on which narrator you heard first. . . .Nope! I think the world of Jonathan Marosz as a narrator, especially the diversity and consistency of his character voices. I believe they should re-record the book with Jonathan, as otherwise, a big section of his fan base will be disgusted. I did listen to the whole book, which was torture, but then I had to buy the book and read it myself to understand the story. They did learn, and kept Harlan out of the recording studio for subsequent books. If you are a Bolitar fan, buy the paperback for "Promise Me", then continue on audio for the rest of the series.
