I haven't read the print version but I imagine doing so would have allowed my to fill in the blanks regarding what the characters may sound like.
I liked that the story was very descriptive about the family and their background, which helped the audience to understand how they became dependent on certain substances. I also liked that this seemed very realistic; I am sure there are many "functioning" addicts in the world who need help.
Denise - mainly because the voice fit her since the narrator is a woman. I think she also did well with Mackenzie and relatively well with Derrek, although it was annoying at times when she tried to deepen her voice to sound like a man. Nonetheless, I liked her reading voice and thought she maintained a good rhythm.
What's Done In the Dark...
I loved how Carl Weber and his co-author decided to switch some of the points of view, allowing us to learn more about some of the other characters.
Hmm...don't know that I've read a book that is comparable in plot to The Family Business 2; however, the Duncan family could be considered similar in some ways to HBO's The Sopranos.
I enjoyed the introduction of Sasha. Although she was a bit sex-crazed, it added an interesting perspective to the history of the family and their business.
Junior! I loved his narrator's voice; he just sounded like a cool and debonair guy. Junior seems like he knows how to wine and dine and is willing to take care of his woman when he's found the right one.
It ranks at the top. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the narration, especially with multiple people reading the various parts.
There so many to choose from! One that had me on the edge of my seat was when LC confronted Paris after making a fatal error. I just knew her life was going to end early!
Paris! She is a spoiled, overly ambitious brat but a sassy lady.
LC - being the patriarch of the family and performed by a man with such a commanding voice, I spent most of the book trying to decide what actor should play his role if this were a movie. I couldn't decide between Ving Rhames and James Pickens, Jr. (Dr. Webber from Grey's Anatomy)!
I knocked off a star for performance because I believe all of the voices fit the characters relatively well...except Rio. Rio is flamboyant and fabulous, yet the performer sounded as if he were bored! I also noticed that I enjoyed hearing Harris more when LC's performer read his lines than the guy actually performing his character.
