At least that is what Cavanaugh is led to believe. The best thrillker in many years! Morrell puts you in his car and heads down and road filled with trwists and turns. He never leaves the road, and he never slows down. Fantastic!

    "A Fun Read"
    Overall

This was a well crafted tale with an excellent narrator. The writing (narrative) was trite -- almost amateurish. Literary fiction it ain't. Still worth reading...

In 1970, one of Mississippi's more colorful weekly newspapers, The Ford County Times, went bankrupt. To the surprise and dismay of many, ownership was assumed by a 23 year-old college dropout, named Willie Traynor. The future of the paper looked grim until a young mother was brutally raped and murdered by a member of the notorious Padgitt family. Willie Traynor reported all the gruesome details, and his newspaper began to prosper.

A fun read despite a plotline "black hole" midway through. Very similar to earlier works, and very well read by Michael Beck (once again).

This is a good story but the writing is amatuerysh. Cliches bump into malaprops in a narrative that became painful for the narrator. Despite its shortcomings, its an okay listen.

    "Great Story, Told So So"
    Overall

This story is packed with adventure and intrigue, but not told as well as it could have been. The Protector by David Morrell is a similar type story told EXTREMELY well. I don't know how badly the abridgement affected the writing. Who knows, it may have IMPROVED it!

    Still worth reading.

The author takes us inside George Webb's -a divorced ex-policeman turned private investigator- mind. For one day, we see what Webb sees and know only what his thoughts reveals. We learn about his childhood and the secret it forced him to carry; the last moments with his ex-wife; his fall as a cop; the ease with which he has turned his police skills to the demands of his new profession. And we learn how those demands have put him in a league with a client, a woman he has come to love.

Swift does a masterful job of story telling, interweaving stories and time shifts seamlessly and effortlessly. The narration is first rate. This is story telling at its best. Very enjoyable.

    Eric says: "Interesting"
    "Disappointin Departure"
    Overall

A fairly interesting storyline is bogged down by an insipid "romance" that Kellerman needed to fill in between plot points. He is not a good romance writer. In his past books, he spared us with only brief interludes with Robin etal. Not so here!

Also missing was his wit and crisp descriptives of people and places. In its stead, the unexpected infusion of words tha even Bill Buckley doesn't use. Apparently, Kellerman got one of those "Learn A Word a Day" desk calendars.
