I really have been trying to listen to books that are considered must reads. This book just moved so slowly that it bored me.
I already knew the premise of this book so the ending was no surprise.
The narration like the story wasn't anything special. I think I have been spoiled by narrations that incorporate sound effects. Or maybe its the readings that sound like they actually are enthusiastic about the material past just reading it.
I've listened to several books from this period, they are just not for me. If you like this style of writing then enjoy! I found the story to be really dull with an odd emphasis on details of things that didn't add to the overall story.
This particular story starts a new chapter in the story... Though it doesn't really make sense....
The last book.
The narrator is improving.. but I still feel like he doesn't emote correctly in tense situations.
Well yes, in that it is intentionally written with a cliffhanger.... But I think the books are just stalling the conclusion. The author wants to keep this going to make more money. Unlike Dresdyn or other stories with an overlaying plot and a story plot, this author doesn't do that. He now has one main plot and is trying to come up with reasons to extend the story. . . So every blade of grass becomes important. Creating new problems.
If you're this far in the series... Book 5 gets good. Book 4 is kinda an F' you to the reader... It sets up to be something big but just wastes time.
This book is just a big setup for the next book.
Quit coming up with reasons to stall the plot. Add more content and less situations that just drop off in the next book. I get it more books more money... but this one was a big snoozer.
This narrator has grown on me. He found a good balance between his accent and the accent of different characters.
The middle of the book we get into another... We're trapped here.... lets save these people.... OH wait we're split up.... now lets re find everyone....
You can listen to the first 1/4th of the book and last 1/4 of the book and won't lose anything in the next one.
Series Game Changer
There is so much going on. It never slows down.
*SPOILERS!* YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! * I liked when Harry has to decide which of 3 horrible options he must choose to save his daughter.
A wizard who will risk everything to save his daughter.
This may be my new favorite in the series. So many awesome twists...
No, while its a good book it relies a lot on suspense and "what will we do now" moments. Once those are revealed it loses some of its replay-ability.
I really do not know? It's a survivalist post apocalyptic book with zombies....
I know the character is from New England but his accent becomes distracting when it comes from most characters. You can tell he's exaggerating the times he's trying to cover it up.
No..... there are some lulls . .. . Also a lot of flashes to different places, times, or thoughts.
I hear the 3rd book is the best... This one was better than the first... but I am not hooked yet. They get one last shot.
I would, but likely it won't be until closer to the next release of the main story. There are alot of Easter Eggs that show up later on.
The ending... I know it's very trite to say.... But the last chapter really is great.
There is a great bit of stockholme syndrome that I did not see coming!
Don't read this book out of order. TOO MANY SPOILERS!
This book does further the series but isn't it's best.
The way Harry gets himself out of the final conflict great and unexpected.
He has embodied the characters wonderfully.
Wizard action amazement!
George RR MARTIN does further the story with this installment. Much like his other books some stories are AWESOME! Others are just plain boring.
It was an ending? IT had no impact on me.
The dragons are finally becoming more prominent.
It made me rethink how I spent the last 40 + hours of my life.
It is hard to deal with this series. IT is very very descriptive. . . which is fine... but some of the side stories just are BORING.... I am usually a fan of unabridged not here.... The TV series is doing a better job at trimming the fat then the audio books. Listen if you have time.
Interesting take on zombies...
I really enjoyed the acknowledgement of zombies being in our culture before the invasion.
Probably not. . He doesn't do a bad job, but the east coast accent kills me.
I listened to half the book in one day while painting my deck. . . I was able to put it down easily. There are too many asides in this novel. It is a bit like listening to an episode of "Family Guy". One thing will happen then you'll have two minutes of irrelevant exposition.
I will give this series one more novel before I quit. The zombies are interesting. The writing style isn't great for me...
I am an auditory learner. . . This is my third favorite in the series! It starts add to the "Death Masks" legend.
I never get tierd of Bob the Skull. His changing fancies are always amusing.
A request for a doughnut.
I'm not very emotional.
I've been hooked on this series since a friend recommended it. This is one of my favorites from the series thus far. Each of these stories can be read as stand alone, but are better appreciated when you listen to the series. (I started on book 3 and was fine.) This story has is one where Harry is put against necromancers.... It also has a lot of Bob the Skull (my favorite character.) Definitely worth a listen. . ..
This book is Harry potter meets, 40's detective story, meets evil dead.
Bob the Skull.... James is very convincing as a performer for both men and women... But with Bob he uses his own accent and gets to be completely inappropriate. It always is a laugh.
Towards the end a method of transportation is awesome!
IF you're new to the series, I've been told book 3 is where to start... SO I started there... and may go back to 1 and 2 later on... CHECK IT OUT!
