In 1766 Scotland, the laird of the clan, Angus McTern, has everything he wants in life. That is, until Edilean Talbot shows up. Breathtakingly beautiful and born of privilege, Edilean represents everything Angus despises. Still, she dazzles him, and when Angus can no longer hide his feelings, she rejects him, leaving him deeply wounded and humiliated. Soon, though, Edilean needs his help....

I bought the book purely because it was narrated by Davina Porter, whom I adore, and got what I was not expecting as far as the story was concerned, but nevertherless a rather good love story with a different angle. Enjoyable, easy reading.

Thanks to a heart transplant, former FBI agent Terrell McCaleb is enjoying a quiet retirement, renovating the fishing boat he lives on in Los Angeles Harbor. But McCaleb's calm seas turn choppy when a story in the "What Happened To?" column of the LA Times brings him face-to-face with the sister of the woman whose heart now beats in his chest.

With neither friends nor family, Lucy Snowe sets sail from England to find employment in a girls's boarding school in the small town of Villette. There, she struggles to retain her self-possession in the face of unruly pupils, a headmistress who spies on her staff, and her own complex feelings: first for the school's English doctor and then for the dictatorial professor, Paul Emmanuel.

I am furious that no mention was made of the fact that if a reader does not speak or understand french, the book is a complete waste of money. The story as usual is excellent, but there was no sense in continueing to read if half the story was being lost.
I strongly suggest that you let you perspective know about this problem.

This is the memoir of James C. Hormel - a man who grew up feeling different not only because his family owned the Hormel “empire” and lived in a 26 bedroom house in a small Midwest town, but because he was gay at a time when homosexuality was not discussed or accepted. Outwardly he tried to live up to the life his father wanted for him - he was a successful professional, had married a lovely woman, and had children - but as volatile changes in the late 1960s impeded on the American psyche, Hormel realized that he could not hide his true self forever.

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..." So begins this classic, one of the most beloved novels of all time. Charles Dickens brings the French Revolution to life through such vivid characters as Charles Darnay, the Old Doctor, Sydney Carton and Lucy Manette. The action peaks with the storming of the Bastille, the dreaded symbol of government authority. And the blade of La Guillotine falls again...

But there are forces more lethal than Gentry in the world. And in their eyes, Gentry has just outlived his usefulness. Now, he is going to prove that for him, there's no gray area between killing for a living-and killing to stay alive.

Very good story line but really gets a trifle unbelieviable as it races towards the end. The characters are good and believiable and narration excellent. A fair copy of "Vine Flynn"! I can recommend it to anyone who enjoys spy thrillers.

A difficult book to review. I was enthralled by the incredible tale of this very sad man. The narrator was amazing, the script brilliant but if a reader is not into history I would not recommend. However, if anything like me - go for it. It is memorable.

This is the first book of Kathy Morton that I have had the pleasure to read. A delightful, riveting story and the narator was magnificent. It led me to check for further books by the same author and I have just completed and enjoyed, once again, The Secret Garden. Such a change to read a book with no sex, violence or horror. A lovely fairy tale, beautifully written and read. Thank you.

It's the glittering 80s and Lucinda Cowper, Elizabeth Beaumont, and Flora Fielding feel happy and secure in the power and pleasure of wealth. Nothing could have prepared them for a devastating financial scandal, which turns the boom to bust. The crash takes away their hope, their self-respect, and for some, it destroys even more. Facing bleak futures, affairs begin, lies are spun, relationships are pushed to breaking point, and within the year someone will be dead. But who? And why?

As usual her book has an excellent story line, just a pity the ending was 'unfinished' and left me a trifle let down. Did they succeed with the court case or what?

    Jilly Bond was excellent.
