When Jimmy McMullen, a fireman, is killed in the line of duty, his wife, Jackie, and ten-year-old son, Charlie, are devastated. Charlie idolized his dad, and now the outgoing boy has become quiet and reserved. Trusting in the healing power of family, Jackie decides to return to her childhood home on Sullivan's Island. Awaiting them is Annie Britt, the matriarch who has kept the porch lights on to welcome them. Thrilled to have her family back again, Annie promises to make their visit perfect - even though relations between mother and daughter have never been smooth.

Leslie Anne Greene Carter is the Last Original Wife among her husband Wesley's wildly successful Atlanta social set. His cronies have all traded in the mothers of their children they promised to love and cherish - till death did them part - for tanned-and-toned young Barbie brides. If losing the social life and close friends she adored wasn't painful enough, a series of setbacks shake Les's world and push her to the edge. She's had enough of playing the good wife to a husband who thinks he's doing her a favor keeping her around. Now, she's going to take some time forherself - in the familiar comforts and stunning beauty of Charleston, her beloved hometown.

Daughter of a cold, controlling mother and an anonymous donor, studious, obedient Elizabeth finally let loose one night, drinking too much at a nightclub and allowing a strange man’s seductive Russian accent to lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive. The events that followed changed her life forever. Twelve years later, the woman now known as Abigail Lowery lives alone on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks. A freelance programmer, she works at home designing sophisticated security systems.

Would you listen to The Witness again? Why?

Probably not. I don't typically listen to the same story twice.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Abigail(Elizabeth), is great and of course she is the main character, but I definitely would give Brooks the top award for supporting role!

Which character – as performed by Julia Whelan – was your favorite?

Brooks, I loved how she put that strong but sweet southern accent in this character. I could just imagine him in my head as if I were watching a movie.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh, cry, and mad.

    Any additional comments?

Nora Roberts did an excellent job with this story. It's a little bit different than her typical book, but what an excellent job! I recommend it highly!
