Ayn Rand's "The Virtue of Selfishness" is possibly the most liberating treatise on human living ever put to pen. This work should be at the top of the list of essential reading. Moreover, the world would be a far better place if more people chose to live a rational, conscious life.
Ruth Reichl can write! Not only does she recreate with Kodak imagery her many incognito journies into the world of restaurant haut-cuisine as the food critic for the NY Times, but her prose become almost poetic as she savors the complex flavors and layers of texture, meal by meal, costume after costume. I was dining at her table (inconspicuous), enjoying each irresistable morsel.
