Jack Reacher is approached by a Secret Service agent who needs a favor. "I want to hire you to assassinate the Vice President of the United States," she asks. She is the newly appointed head of the VP's security detail and wants Reacher to try to penetrate her team's shield. He has the skills and the stealth and no one knows him. How else can she be sure her protection is truly effective?

I haven't been disappointed yet, listening to the Jack Reacher novels. He's truly an interesting character, and Dick Hill brings him to life. This is another suspenseful "who's the bad guy?' story, that keeps you guessing til the end. Don't want to give anything away, except, if you follow the series, don't miss out on this one.
Only thing that really bugs me.....I really wish Reacher would do some laundry and quit throwing away good clothes.

A long-buried family secret resurfaces when one of Aloysius Pendergast's most implacable enemies shows up on his doorstep as a murdered corpse. The mystery has all the hallmarks of the perfect murder, save for an enigmatic clue: a piece of turquoise lodged in the stomach of the deceased. The gem leads Pendergast to an abandoned mine on the shore of California's desolate Salton Sea, which in turn propels him on a journey of discovery deep into his family's sinister past.

What a great story. I've read or listened to all this series in order, and have yet to be disappointed. The story opens up with a shocker for Pendergast, creating the mystery of the story. Solving this murder mystery leads him on a deadly trail, that could cost his life. Constance Green is the undisputed heroine, acquiring the help of Margo Green both putting their lives on the line for the beloved Pendergast. The novel peels away another layer of the Pendergast mystique, as we learn more about the darker side of his family tree. Like all the rest of the books, it draws you in with clue after clue unfolding through the melodious voice of Rene Auberjonois perfectly capturing the emotions and voices of the characters.

Not only could her co-workers double as the cast of Parks and Recreation, but she loves finding the unusual sites, hidden gems, and just-plain-odd tourist attractions of her home state. She’s a shoo-in for the director’s job when her boss retires at the end of the year…until hotshot Josh Vaughn shows up to challenge her for the position. Josh is all sophisticated polish while Sadie’s country comfort, and the two have very different ideas of what makes a good campaign.

If you are in the mood to listen to something light hearted, funny, with no surprises then this duo fits the bill. Harper puts the romantic comedy to paper, and Ronconi brings the characters to life as only she can do. I love these books for a quick listen that keeps you chuckling. The story is predictable, but who cares when it lifts the spirits and puts a smile on the face.

The Warded Man features a world where demons stalk the night, hunting humans who have long forgotten the magic of their ancestors. But all is not lost, as some hold out hope that a savior will release humanity from the demons' terrifying reign.

    Story

Don't let the length of this story dissuade you, you won't want it to end. It starts out with a world where the demons come out at night to kill any human they can find. The humans live in warded villages, where only messengers travel from one place to another delivering goods and news from afar. It tells a story of three separate people coming together in a fight against these said creatures. Each has a hard road in life to travel that molds them into the people they become, each possessing a special talent to use against the demons in the battle to bring the world back to the humans. This is one of the best fantasy novels I've heard in a long time, the characters get a grip on you and don't let go and it doesn't end here.

For generations, Arienh’s people have feared the Viking raids. She knows all too well the terrible toll the Northmen have taken on the Celts, having lost most of her own family to their swords. So one stormy night when she encounters and wounds a Viking warrior, she has every right to want him dead. And yet she hesitates…. Ronan knows Arienh doesn’t recognize him. He was just a boy when his kinsmen raided her village and Ronan risked his own life to protect her. Now he has returned to claim the beautiful girl who captured his heart years before. But wooing a Celtic woman is no easy task.

    Story

I was in the mood for a good love story, but with that, some times you get a story that frustrates you because the main characters don't communicate the one thing that is keeping them apart. This story certainly fit that bill. Ronan has loved Arienh for 10 years without her knowing it, and she has waited for his return for 10 years. When he does come back, she doesn't recognize him and even if she did, she won't get her HEA, because of a secret she is guarding and the fact he is a Viking. (He keeps insisting he's not a Viking, but a Northman, and there is a difference) It gets frustrating at times, but I listened on and did enjoy the book, knowing that this was one of those typical love stories and all would end well.

Alex Verus is part of a world hidden in plain sight, running a magic shop in London. And while Alex's own powers aren't as showy as some mages, he does have the advantage of foreseeing the possible future-allowing him to pull off operations that have a million-to-one-chance of success. But when Alex is approached by multiple factions to crack open a relic from a long-ago mage war, he knows that whatever's inside must be beyond powerful.

    Story

I almost gave up on this book. Alex, goes to great lengths explaining the world of magic, every different kind of mage there is and what powers they possess. It bordered on boredom for the first part of the book, but managed to get better once all the background was gathered. The story then developed into a quest of life and death to retrieve a powerful relic that only Alex could open it's secrets. Alex has a nice group of friends to help and an equal amount of enemies out to stop him. The first of a series, but I think I'll stick with Dresden.

Poke Rafferty was writing offbeat travel guides for the young and terminally bored when Bangkok stole his heart. Now the American expat is assembling a new family with Rose, the former go-go dancer he wants to marry, and Miaow, the tiny, streetwise urchin he wants to adopt. But trouble in the guise of good intentions comes calling just when everything is beginning to work out.

    Story

The author and the narrator do an excellent job of bringing these unique and intriguing characters to life. The story is scary and revolting as it brings to light the torture of children and adults alike in Thailand. The children can break your heart, as their stories are told, but most importantly you can understand the victims becoming the murderers, in an effort to deal with the horrors that they have had to suffer. Poke is an ordinary guy that finds himself loving two victims of this culture, trying to understand their way of coping with the past, while protecting them from the evil that has shown it's face at their door.
The book gets pretty gritty toward the end, with the suspense keeping you on the edge of your seat. Well worth the listen.

Jack Till, who has retired from the LAPD after a respected career as a homicide detective, now works as a private investigator, comfortable chasing down routine cases while visiting his 24-year-old daughter, Holly, who has Down Syndrome. But when the parents of a recently murdered young girl, about Holly's age, ask for his help when the police come up empty, Till reluctantly takes the case.

This was my first listen of Thomas Perry and I thought it to be an "OK" book. If not for the other reviews though, I probably wouldn't read anything else from this author, due to the lack of imagination in the book. It reads like a police procedural, with boring characters.
Jack Till seems to solve the case too easily, with all the handy clues available (like finding the next prostitute victim from the same necklace) At any rate, I didn't get attached to any of these characters, and what I enjoy most about what I read is the character development. I'll try another from this author though, as he does have great reviews from other books

Fame has its price - and in Hollywood, it can cost you your life. That’s where Abby Sinclair comes in. She infiltrates the lives of celebrity stalkers to separate the homicidal from the harmless. It doesn’t take her long to realize that the man harassing LA’s most glamorous TV newswoman poses a very real threat. Raymond Hickle used to be golden-haired Kris Barwood’s biggest fan. Now he’s her worst nightmare. Phone calls and gifts have failed to win her heart, so now he’s taking a new approach.

This started out as a good story of a private security employee, Abby that infiltrates the suspect's life with friendship, in an effort to thwart an attempt on her client's life. She's coming back from a big failure with this case, when a TV anchorwoman is threatened by stalker, Raymond Hickle. Abby seems to be doing her job well, while we see the characters developing and becoming more interesting. The listening went along slowly for awhile, with gathering of evidence and procedure, when a huge twist to the story blew my mind. Changed the whole book for me and the suspense kept the ear buds in. Don't give up on this one, it's a good listen.

This is a world where sin and salvation collide. This is a world where a cynical fallen angel struggles with the seven deadly sins and seven chosen souls. With the spellbinding Immortal, the riveting series that "changed the face of paranormal romance" comes to an epic close as mankind's reluctant savior struggles with his greatest challenge yet.

I know I'm in a minority here, but this ending seemed rushed and lacking in any real suspense. When a dilemma was produced in the story, it was quickly absolved and on to the next, thus rushing the last two souls to be saved and the end of the series.
I loved the previous books and was satisfied with the final outcome, but something was just missing from this story, something that made all the rest so much fun to read.

One of the most popular suspense novels of all time. A well-dressed man stalks the high-class neighborhoods of New York City. He is armed with an ice axe. His victims are strangers. And one cop, Captain Ed Delaney must solve a series of bizarre, gruesome murders that defy logic or method. This shocking story has captured the imaginations of millions like no other modern thriller.

    Story

Edward X Delaney and Daniel J Blank are two for the books. The story delves in to what these men feel and what is making them tick. Both have an agenda, one is killing and very slowly we see what has drove him to this point, while the other is ruthlessly trying to solve the crime while his own personal life situation is falling into turmoil. It's a very unique character study of two men and the women that play a integral part of their story.
My only complaint would be the epilogue which summed up everyone's future quite shortly. I want to hear more, so that makes the next of the series a must.
