What made the experience of listening to The Hawley Book of the Dead the most enjoyable?

The narrator was very good with both male and female voices. The story was not predictable, and flowed smoothly, kept me interested all the way through. A very good book.

Have you listened to any of Cassandra Campbell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She is a very good narrator! Yes, I've listened to other performances by her. She always does a great job.

Pirriwee Public's annual school Trivia Night has ended in a shocking riot. One parent is dead. The school principal is horrified. As police investigate what appears to have been a tragic accident, signs begin to indicate that this devastating death might have been cold-blooded murder. In this thought-provoking novel, number-one New York Times best-selling author Liane Moriarty deftly explores the reality of parenting and playground politics, ex-husbands and ex-wives, and fractured families.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?"

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I didn't want to give this book a bad review, but I had to return it after just a couple of chapters because it is just full of numbers, numbers, and more numbers. This caused my brain to feel jumbled. It is narrated well and has some good humor, but I just couldn't get past the mathematics. It doesn't make you figure it out, but it is just too scientific for me to enjoy.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would. This book is very well written. It draws you into a world that is so real you find yourself inside the the main character.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh and cry, and raise your fist in anger and in victory. Not a predictable book at all.

    Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this book. It evokes really strong emotions that run the gamet. I don't want to give anything away, but this book is very rich, and makes you think long after it is finished.

The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

This was a very well written book, but kind of depressing overall. The kind of book that does make you think about it long after you are finished reading it. Maybe it struck too close to home in some ways, and if you've ever dealt with some of the issues in the book, it makes you relive them. There is some good humor woven throughout the book, which I really enjoyed and saved it from becoming a downer, but even that had a bite to it. A very good read overall. The narrater was excellent.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Action, Adventure, intrigue, well deserved laughter, heartache, just the right blend of emotions from the two central characters who compliment each other perfectly. I don't think a movie could be made that would do this story justice. It's a great listen! I was just confused as I read this book second after reading Theft of Swords first. This one should have been read before Theft of Swords, as it deals with the earlier lives of the two main characters and their supporting cast.

What about Tim Gerard Reynolds’s performance did you like?

The narrator is great. He does a wonderful job with the voices, both male and female.

What made the experience of listening to Theft of Swords the most enjoyable?

The interaction of the characters, the humor, the emotions.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Royce probably because there is so much we don't really know about him.

    Any additional comments?

This is an excellent series. Everyone is believable although seems unbelievable. The story line moves along well. I love the characters. I love the heartache, heartbreak, and the surprises. You never know what is around the corner! A great read, even for a 60-year-old who doesn't read much fantasy. A great escape.

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s easy to say that when it comes to sci-fi you either love it or you hate it. But with Ender’s Game, it seems to be you either love it or you love it.... The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Enter Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, the result of decades of genetic experimentation.

What made the experience of listening to Ender's Game the most enjoyable?

The narrators had soothing but expressive voices. I every much enjoyed listening to them. It couldn't have been better narrated.

What did you like best about this story?

The story line was complex with ethical issues.

What does Stefan Rudnicki and Harlan Ellison bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

They brought a real sense of being in the story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Should we forgive ourselves?

    Any additional comments?

This book was very well narrated, and made me think about ethics, about what I would have done, and what is the true definition of right or wrong?

Victorian romance mixes seamlessly with elegant prose and biting wit—and werewolves—in Gail Carriger’s delightful debut novel. Soulless introduces Alexia Tarabotti, a parasol-wielding Londoner getting dangerously close to spinster status. But there are more important things than finding a husband. For Alexia was born without a soul, giving her the ability to render any vampire or werewolf completely powerless.

Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

What made the experience of listening to Sycamore Row the most enjoyable?

Another edge of your seat winner for John Grisham!! Loved it. We have all of our favorite characters doing what they do best in this courtroom drama, with some grins along the way, but also surprises. I loved it.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

    Yes.

What about Michael Beck’s performance did you like?

He was very good with all of the voices.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Maybe about 4 sittings. It does get pretty caught up in the legalese, but in a user friendly way.
