In the imperial capital of the Mughal Empire, a traveler arrives at the court of Emperor Akbar. The traveler, Mogor dell'Amore, has a tale to tell, and as the words flow out of him, the tale's rich tapestry of power and desire begins to take on a life of its own.

This book covers some of my main areas of interest, so I was very surprised that I couldn't get into listening to it. I've started it several times, but can't stay engaged. I listen to many audio books each month and usually complete them and listen to the more entertaining ones again, but this one just didn't pull me in. Perhaps it is the writer's elaborate style. If you are similar to me and like fact filled, straight forward historical fiction with an intriguing plot, you might want to look elsewhere.

Over the past decade, Malcolm Gladwell has become the most gifted and influential journalist in America. In The New Yorker, his writings are such must-reads that the magazine charges advertisers significantly more money for ads that run within his articles. With his #1 best sellers, The Tipping Point, Blink and Outliers, he has reached millions of readers. And now the very best and most famous of his New Yorker pieces are collected in a brilliant and provocative anthology.

Rudi says: "Not Gladwell's best - and a recording problem"
    "Expect the Unexpected"

Turns a lot of our accepted notions on their heads.

  • Roma: The Novel of Ancient Rome

    Story

Weaving history, legend, and new archaeological discoveries into a spellbinding narrative, critically acclaimed novelist Steven Saylor gives new life to the drama of Rome's first 1,000 years - from the founding of the city by the ill-fated twins Romulus and Remus, through Rome's astonishing ascent to become the capital of the most powerful empire in history.

    S. Caruso says: "Excellent Feel for Ancient Rome"
    "Not worth two credits"
    Overall

Although the narrator does a great job with this book, I would not spend two credits on this book. It reads like a children's book with a few rated R scenes thrown in for reasons that seem to have little to do with the overall progress of the story.
Suggestions for something to read about Ancient Rome that is better literature: Pompeii by Robert Harris or either of the Claudius books by Robert Graves.

The ImmersionPlus series of original vignettes has been created especially for the intermediate to advanced foreign language students who want to improve their foreign language comprehension.

    Overall

Each dialogue is introduced in English. If you will be able to understand the conversation that follows, you won't need the English language intro. If you need it, you won't be able to decipher the Italian language dialogue. A booklet with the sentences translated would make this possibly useful.

Nine-time NBA Champion coach Phil Jackson knows all about being in the spotlight, about high-profile, high-pressure seasons coaching gigantic personalities through adversity and controversy in the middle of a media hothouse in which every move is another headline, another installment in the soap opera. But nothing had quite prepared him for the only-in-Hollywood high-wire act of the Lakers' 2003-2004 season.

A User says: "If you are interested in the NBA"
"Kudos from a dedicated Spurs fan"
    Overall

Thank you, Phil Jackson, for this inside look at a world that fascinates and intrigues the viewer. You are a larger than life figure who manages to convey both your the human quaulities and those of the giants we love and hate.
