No one in the small town of Placentia, California is surprised when Benny Needles's house catches fire. The outside hasn't seen a paint brush in years. The inside is stuffed with Dean Martin memorabilia. It would be a simple case of homeowner negligence, except for the body found inside. Under suspicion of both murder and arson, Benny turns to the one person who has always helped him, private investigator Peri Minneopa. Fire investigation isn't on her menu of services, but Peri's weak spot for Benny overrules her reluctance.

This is a light, funny mystery that is just plain entertaining. I love her Peri Minneopa character as well as the Dean Martin loving Benny Needles. Thank you Ms. Carline for hours of entertainment.

I really enjoyed Ms. Carline's writing. She is funny and the "whodunit" was very clever. I really enjoyed her characters, especially Benny, who idolizes Dean Martin.

If you like cozy mysteries, you'll enjoy this. I'm on to the next one in the series.

This is an excellent suspense novel with outstanding characters. Ledford does a great job of developing characters that feel real and have depth. The storyline was not too graphic, but very tense. It kept me on the edge of my seat.

The narrator was excellent. One of the best I've heard in a while.

All in all, it was a great read. I would recommend it to anyone who likes suspense novels. Don't miss this one!

Would you listen to Madness and Murder again? Why?

I would absolutely listen to this book again because it kept me on the edge of my seat.

What other book might you compare Madness and Murder to and why?

The psychological suspense felt just a tad like Silence of the Lambs.

Have you listened to any of David Gilmore’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but unfortunately I had to break it up.

    Any additional comments?

The book was intense and not overly graphic. Strong characters with a lot of passion. I would definitely recommend this book. I can't wait to listen to more of Jenny Hilborne's books.
