It's summer on Nantucket, and as the season begins, three women arrive at the local airport, observed by Josh, a local boy, home from college. Burdened with small children, unwieldy straw hats, and some obvious emotional issues, the women - two sisters and one friend - make their way to the sisters' tiny cottage, inherited from an aunt. They're all trying to escape from something, and soon Josh is part of the chaotic household, acting as babysitter, confidant, and, eventually, something more....

The more books I listen to, the more I like this author...her books have a religious undertone and are comforting.

  • A Single Thread: The Cobbled Court Series, Book 1

Marie Bostwick weaves the unforgettable story of four very different women whose paths cross, changing their lives forever. It’s a long way from Fort Worth, Texas, to New Bern, Connecticut, yet it only takes a day in the charming Yankee town to make Evelyn Dixon realize she’s found her new home. The abrupt end of her marriage was Evelyn’s wake-up call to get busy chasing her dream of opening a quilt shop. Finding a storefront is easy enough; starting a new life isn’t....

It took a minute for me to realize why I couldn't get into this book...it was primarily the "elderly" narrator (there were two: one read in a younger voice-sometimes too young for the character; while the other read for the older women characters in a very old, matronly voice). Her voice didn't help the book at all. It kind of grated on my nerves and I wasn't sure why she felt characterizing 40-50-60 year old women as if they were 100! Her pitch and tone when changing characters was confusing. Also, I wish the author hadn't waited so long to flesh out the characters. I may listen to another book, but I will steer clear of the reader.

Jack Reacher. The ultimate loner. An elite ex-military cop who left the service years ago, he's moved from place to place...without family...without possessions...without commitments.

This is the third book I've listened to by this author and narrator and I love each and every one! I know Reacher's character may be over the top, but I still get excited and sometimes find myself holding my breath to hear what will happen next. I listen to these books in my car and there have been times that I've just sat in the car (after I've arrived at my destination), because I can't find a good stopping point! I just have to hear what comes next!

Would you listen to The Witness again? Why?

I really enjoyed listening to this book. It started off very well but after the main character fell in love, it became sort of predictable.

If you've listened to books by Nora Roberts before, how does this one compare?

This was my first "listen" ...

    Which scene was your favorite?

I really enjoyed the beginning of the book, as Liz's adventure began ...

Lacey Terwilliger's shock and humiliation over her husband's philandering prompt her to add some bonus material to Mike's company newsletter: stunning Technicolor descriptions of the special brand of "administrative support" his receptionist gives him. The detailed mass e-mail to Mike's family, friends, and clients blows up in her face, and before one can say "instant urban legend", Lacey has become the pariah of her small Kentucky town and a media punch line....
