I can't think of any other book.
All of them- please don't force me to choose.
The moment that moved me was when the crew had to start killing and eating one another.
Strangely Tragic yet Intriguing!
The tale of Humphrey Dumphrey.
Syrus Finch aka SyFy. I like how he sometimes spoke in a "Southern African American" accent to commemorate his ancestors, as he explains.
Yes I wish I could have listed to all four books in the series but Audible has books 1 & 3 but not 2 & 4. I see that some folks have read book 3 without having read book 2 but that's not my style. I will wait until 2 comes out in audio form.
This book was surprisingly great! I know this must be a terrible review you guys but just get this book; you will not regret it!
I like that he found peace with his "mother". I also like the reader and the plot of the story. The sex scenes were not just unnecessary but too long. I had listen to one 15 minutes sex scene after another. Sex with this girl, sex with that girl, then sex with both girls; to which seemed too have lasted a whole hour. I pressed the 30 sec fast forward about 50 times before the sex was over. Then shortly there was more sex. Not to mention the mother was a prostitute who was graphically molesting her son and everybody else. Wait is this an erotic book series? If so, that explains the frequency of sex.
People curse because they lack the vocabulary to accurately express themselves. The same is true for writers and sex. Sex fills the space when a writer lacks the ability accurately stick to, in this case, the assassin theme.
If EJD had left out the sex scenes, this book would be cut in half.
Yes. I'm going to finish the series because I like the plot. I wish he would just lay off the sex a little. Funny thing about it is, in the first book, I think, Gideon claims that it's been a long long time since he's been with a woman, and now all of sudden he's sexing everybody. LOL
Love this guy. I'm going to seek out his other books and buy them too.
Gideon should be Idris Elba. The guy with the broken nose should be LL Cool J. Queen Scams should be Lousy Lou. Thelma should be Thandi Newton. Lola Mac should Bre Kim Kardasian and Mrs. Jones should be Kerry Washington.
It's not that this book wasn't for me because I read Lost at Sea: The Story of Essex, and it was outstanding. It kept me on the edge of my seat.
The narrator was dry, but the point of view was very confusing. How is Melville telling this story with barely no interaction with the crew/ indeavour. It reads as if he is watching it on TV.
The end, and I mean the very end, was okay.
some entusiasm and effort
Hunger Games- again
The guy was boring- I could not follow
Just the narrator!!!
This guy practically had the same voice for everybody- even the women. I couldn't tell who was who.
All of the extra slaves. I wanted to follow his story not five different stories.
Not really. It sounds a lot like a conspiracy theory at times- making you want to say, man get over it already. I understand where he's coming from but he really didn't tell us Black folks anything that we didn't already know about racism and inequalities. I didn't quite catch the point. I don't know if he ever gave an answer to his title.
I love the quote by Chris Rock because if you think about it, it is the honest to goodness! He said "For Black people, America is like the uncle who sent you to college, but molested you", and he is absolutely right. It's like -thank you for freeing us and allowing us to grow, but you still scared me for life.
I'm sorry but Toure' sounds lame and didn't give the book that inspiring edge like if MLK would have read it vs Steve Urkel.
No, not anything that I wasn't already inspired to do before reading this book.
I don't know what to say. Bravo
The narration is by far the best I've ever heard.
