  • The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty: Sleeping Beauty Trilogy, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 9 mins)
    • By Anne Rice
    • Narrated By Samantha Prescott, Corbin Steele
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

From best-selling author Anne Rice, writing as A.N. Roquleaure, in the traditional folktale of "Sleeping Beauty", the spell cast upon the lovely young princess and everyone in her castle can only be broken by the kiss of a prince. It is an ancient story, one that originally emerged from and still deeply disturbs the mind's unconscious. Now Anne Rice's retelling of the Beauty story probes the unspoken implications of this lush, suggestive tale by exploring its undeniable connection to sexual desire. Here the prince reawakens Beauty, not with a kiss, but with sexual initiation.

    Leesa says: "Surprising"
What would have made The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty better?

I don't mind BDSM but this was total degradation!
And just how many times can you use the word "ignominious" in a offense to Anne Rice...but she never thought to use the words humiliating or degrading....everything was IGNOMINIOUS!

What was most disappointing about Anne Rice’s story?

Anne Rice is so much better than this....I was expecting excellent writing as per her other books. This was a total let down!

Have you listened to any of Samantha Prescott and Corbin Steele ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I don't think I have listened to either before, but not bad narration.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty?

The whole book should have been tossed and rethought.

    Any additional comments?

Total disappointment....don't waste your credit on this unless you are into "ignominious" situations. could not be helped.

  • An Echo in the Bone: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (45 hrs and 58 mins)
    • By Diana Gabaldon
    • Narrated By Davina Porter
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Jamie Fraser knows from his time-traveling wife Claire that, no matter how unlikely it seems, America will win the Revolutionary War. But that truth offers little solace, since Jamie realizes he might find himself pointing a weapon directly at his own son - a young officer in the British army. And Jamie isn't the only one with a tormented soul - for Claire may know who wins the conflict, but she certainly doesn't know whether or not her beloved Jamie survives.

Charles says: "Read all of Gabaldon's stuff before this one"
"Can't wait for the next book!!!"
Would you consider the audio edition of An Echo in the Bone to be better than the print version?

I can't really say it's better than the printed version, I've not actually read the book. However I love Davina Porter's portrayal of the characters.

What other book might you compare An Echo in the Bone to and why?

    Beyond comparison...

What does Davina Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

At first I didn't particularly care for the narrator, she sounded too old to be the Claire I was imagining (Ms. Porter, no offense intended). However as I began listening to the book and seeing in my minds eye the person that Ms. Gabaldon describes in such vivid detail everything fell into place. Davina Porter portrays all characters with such vitality and you never have to wonder who the voice she is portraying belongs know the character by their voice. And I also love how Ms. Porter conveys emotion in her reading, it isn't just flat emotionless's narrating at it's best.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I think the most moving part for me was when Lord John, as his final act of love toward Jamie, proposes to Claire. Two people who have loved Jamie for so many years come together to share in the love of the one man. Very touching.

  • An Amish Gathering: Life In Lancaster County

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 51 mins)
    • By Beth Wiseman
    • Narrated By Debra Solberg

Each year at wintertime, Rebecca Miller mourns the loss of her twin sister, who was killed in a skating accident. Ben Weaver has been her friend, but this winter he’s vowed to melt her heart -frozen with grief - and make her his wife.

Allyson says: "Unexpectedly Good, Start with Part 2"
    "Narrator or reader...."
Would you listen to An Amish Gathering again? Why?

No....sorry the narrator seemed like she was just reading the book. Anyone can read a book but narration is another story. Will definitely be sure she's not the narrator for any other books I download.

    Any additional comments?

However the stories themselves were pretty good.
