The Essential HR Handbook is a quick-reference guide that sheds light on the issues that keep managers up at night. It is filled with information, tools, tips, checklists, and road maps to guide managers and HR professionals through the maze of people and legal issues, from recruiting and retaining the best employees to terminating poor performers.

What would have made The Essential HR Handbook better?

Just be in paper. There are a lot of checklists, repetition and boring. This is a lot of common sense and if you do not already know a lot of this then you should not be in HR or a Manager.

Laws are specific to the jurisdiction you are operating your business in, therefore it is good practice to consult legal counsel do not go by what a general book says.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    A leadership book

Would you be willing to try another one of Sheila Book’s performances?

    No

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Essential HR Handbook?

A lot of the checklists and I would have made them available as reference material.

    Any additional comments?

Common sense. Respect your employees, pay well and have open communication. Do not promote or create a work environment of two faced or stab in the back. Be consistent.

To attract and retain top talent, pay enough to live decently in the area your business is in.

I think managers are better off focusing on being good managers and have the print version on hand but focus on self development.

And above all, do not have the work environment threatening they employees will constantly get the ax. That is not going to make your employees feel good rather it will promote anxiety and resentment and you will have a high turnover.

Respect your employees and have healthy work boundaries and I also recommend Miss Manners Minds Your Business. That book has a lot of helpful information for businesses.

This book tells you what you do not want to hear and gives practical and helpful advice about working on yourself.

I have read a lot of dating books since becoming single again. The flirting tips are all good and by the way girls, it is not the makeup that drives the men wild, it is the bombshell walk, shoulders back, stand up straight walk with confidence and move your hips side to side when you walk.

I think this is an excellent book. You don't have to tell anyone you read it but I do think the chapters about drama and things that we all do and do not mean to and then we are crying again because we sabotaged a great relationship.

This is the book for you, grab a box of tissues and listen and open to your heart to it and I think you will see a difference.

Forever a girl obsessed with all things French, sweet freak Amy Thomas landed a gig as rich as the purest dark chocolate: leave Manhattan for Paris to write ad copy for Louis Vuitton. Working on the Champs-Élysées, strolling the charming streets, and exploring the best patisseries and boulangeries, Amy marveled at the magnificence of the City of Light. But does falling in love with one city mean turning your back on another? As much as Amy adored Paris, there was part of her that felt like a humble chocolate chip cookie....

What did you like best about Paris, My Sweet? What did you like least?

I like getting the perspective of a single woman in Paris. I think she is too obsessed with dessert though and I am surprised she is not diabetic or a member of the differently sized community.

I like these French memoir books but I also fetal they romanticize life in Paris. It is a city like my other. I do not believe in the French mystique but enjoy the story as being this woman's experience.

Would you be willing to try another book from Amy Thomas? Why or why not?

Probably. To see how her writing style changes.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Narrator was fine not great but not bad either

Did Paris, My Sweet inspire you to do anything?

Enjoy the sunlight and fresh air

    Any additional comments?

How can she not be diabetic and weigh 300? Other people I know that eat like this a lot of health problems.

I also think the author comes across as a bit spoiled and ungrateful for het blessings in life. Would like to see a more appreciative attitude for what she has. I do not mean become phony and a bragger but I never detect gratitude. She is fortunate to have the nice job in NYC and to go to Paris and have these lovely experiences.

Hallelujah, the new edition audiobook is the remarkable story of one of the greatest events in musical history, the creation of George Frederic Handel's masterpiece, "Messiah". Composed in just twenty-four days, Handel's Grand Oratorio, which rendered him immortal, was birthed in the darkest and most desperate hours of his life. His health was failing. Critics ridiculed him. Creditors hounded him. Enemies persecuted him. Pride had nearly destroyed him.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I did not like how the author merged events in Handel's life that took part over 30 years and merged them all around when he wrote the Messiah in August 1741 as if
    they all happened then.

If you’ve listened to books by J. Scott Featherstone before, how does this one compare?

    was already interested before hand.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

    no

Was Hallelujah - The Story of the Coming Forth of Handel's Messiah worth the listening time?

not wrong, not good either just okay, his portrayal of Handel was offensive the narrator and author made Handel sound like some fat pompous idiot and he was not that. Yes he had his fault but we all do but Handel was very creative genius, very smart and had a lot more elegance than these two give him credit.

    Any additional comments?

This book does not give Handel his due, it does not do him justice. This is not the Handel I know and love.

Here is the first full-scale biography of Wallis Simpson to be written by a woman, exploring the mind of one of the most glamorous and reviled figures of the 20th century, a character who figured prominently in the blockbuster film The King’s Speech. This is the story of the American divorcée notorious for allegedly seducing a British king off his throne.

What did you like best about That Woman? What did you like least?

I like the realistic potrayal of this nasty woman. I did not like her and it removes the glamour and romance and shows the truth.

Would you recommend That Woman to your friends? Why or why not?

    Yes I would.

Did Samantha Bond do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

    Yes

Did That Woman inspire you to do anything?

    Any additional comments?

This book confirmed what I thought of Wallis she was a nasty piece of work and got what she deserved. Good book and shows what really happened.

Nothing comes between Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) and her bargains. Neither act of God nor budget crunch can shatter her dreams of wall-to-wall Prada. Every milestone in her well-shopped life (travel, long-lost sister, marriage, pregnancy) inspires new vistas to explore in the name of retail therapy. But now she faces her greatest little challenge yet: Becky’s two-year-old daughter, Minnie. Her favorite word is “MINE!”

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

No one. Rebecca is selfish, foolish with spending, spoiling Mini and just all around if I knew her I would want to slap her to get her to see reality.

I think this series has petered out and I am not going to waste anymore of my money on this junk. I do like some of Sophie Kinsella's other books like The UnDomestic Goddess and Rosalyn Landor does the best she can with this manuscript but it is time to let this series go.

As another reviewer said, what was maybe cute and endearing when Rebecca was in her early 20s is now so obnoxious and bordering on crazy.

What could Sophie Kinsella have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Have Rebecca have a better grip on reality. She comes up with crazy ideas that are negative foolish, she does not take anyone else into account. I can't stand this character Rebecca and Mini is a little snot.

What aspect of Rosalyn Landor’s performance would you have changed?

Rosalyn did the best she could. I think she was fine.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Mini Shopaholic?

98% of it and told her to rewrite. I think some authors get to a certain level of success as Sophie Kinsella did and then they get lazy and since they have a following they produce sloppy writing which this is.

Would you be willing to try another book from William Barnes and Frank Baranowski ? Why or why not?

    No

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

    Yes

Could you see My Life and Death being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    No

    Any additional comments?

I am a Titanic Enthusiast so I wanted to give this a chance. It is entertaining but I do not believe he really is the reincarnated Thomas Andrews from the Titanic. All said is all researchable fact and they entertain for a few hours. It is like a snapshot of probably what Thomas Andrews would have felt and he does not have the right accent for the region Thomas Andrews was from.

Also, someone with his ambitions would have tried to initiate a more cultured voice and not continue with the lower class accent.

They did not convince me they were really reincarnated.

Would you consider the audio edition of Chocolate Cream to be better than the print version?

Yes, I purchased the audio and the print from amazon kindle

What was one of the most memorable moments of Chocolate Cream?

the love scene in the interview, spanking and chocolate on some unmentionable body parts but really hot and sexy

    Which scene was your favorite?

the interview in the kitchen when they have sex in the kitchen and he spanks her

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

not extreme but I did enjoy it

    Any additional comments?

This book does have spanking and b&D which is bondage and domination and explicit scenes. If you like that sort of thing this is a really good book but if you are looking for something to give to grandma to listen to and she wants something "nice" this is not your book. If you want something "nice" check out Debbie Macombers books or any of the Christian inspirational they have no sex in them. This has great sex scenes.
