I have to say this book is a really really long read. It's difficult to listen to. At times you're lost in the who's who, and some characters are so similar you can easily get them mixed up.
I'm afraid this book is probably a better read, than it is a listen - at least the first time around. It's a LONG story, and very slow. The writing is excellent, but all the same, you never feel completely immersed in the story. While I liked a few of the characters, I felt incredibly frustrated at the slow pacing of this story.
If you don't mind waiting until the very end of the story for a grand climax, and FINALLY seeing things happen. (and with a book this long, that's a LONG wait) You might be better off finding something a littler punchier than Tigana.
To be honest the narrator was horrible. He's flat and as exciting as listening to a grade 5 child recite his class essay.
Well, performance is putting it too nicely. If he had performed - I might have stuck with the book. Unfortunately he's putting me to sleep and I just can't be bothered anymore after 3 hours of listening.
The story seems to be really good - but the narrator is ruining it.
A better storyline and for gods sake, if I have to hear the word "soul" one more time I am going to effing scream!
End this stupid half people storyline and get back to making magical stories
He's ok, he's not the worst narrator I've heard by far. We need more talented narrators like Kate Reading and Michael Kramer
Not particularly, I'm only finishing it because I paid for it, but I'm not really all that in love with it.
The story was horrible, and bored me to tears. It didn't get interesting til the last quarter of the book. NOT one of Lisa Gardner's better yarns.
Faster pacing. The beginning was so incredibly slow. Then towards the end I don't know if I missed hearing parts, but it seemed like things were happening in a sudden and disjointed way.
Absolutely. I love her books, this one just wasn't one of my favorites.
Dr. James Dobson is a judgmental and obnoxious person. I wish I had never purchased this title.
Honestly, it had nothing to do with the narrator. I couldn't appreciate anything about the book because of Dr. Dobson's narrow minded Old Testament asinine views.
I would've written about actual content that related to children being at risk. From, Oh, I don't know. Bullying, poor discipline, low self esteem... Actually helpful and instructive tools for raising our children.
Not the opinionated ramblings of an unloving and thoughtless jerk who could care less about people and more about the 12 Commandments.
Anyone who likes listening to text to speech or newspaper copy.
He talks like he's reading a newspaper, or mindlessly droning on and doesn't care a whit about the story.
Anger - this book is awesome and it's turned to crap by a horrible narrator.
Stop using Jim Bond for fiction.
This book was SO hard to listen to. Halfway through the book, it finally starts coming to a point, but by then I'm so bored of it. The characters all seem exactly the same, except for a few of them who are the main players of the tale. Unfortunately their names are unmemorable, and difficult to tell apart. I don't know who's who, and who's doing what, and why I should care. After listening to Tigana, I had hoped for a fantastic tale and I'm just so abysmally disappointed.
What a shame. I'm quitting halfway through the book because I just can't bear to waste anymore time on a story I can't become fully engrossed in because I can't figure out who the characters really are.
This is one audiobook I wish I also had the hard copy of. It is SO good that I don't want to stop reading it, whether audio or visual. When it started, I was a little bored, but all that goes out the window in about a half an hour or so of listening to this book. From then on, you want to know how it all turns out!!
After listening for 11 hours, I've had to switch to something else more fast paced. This book is so ploddingly slow, I just can't endure it right now. It's putting me to sleep at work while I listen to it. Who knows if I'll ever come back to finish it. In my experience, if the first several hours have put you to sleep - it generally doesn't get much better.
