"America had a secret weapon," writes Steve Call of the period immediately following September 11, 2001, as planners contemplated the invasion of Afghanistan. This weapon consisted of small teams of Special Forces operatives trained in close air support (CAS) who, in cooperation with the loose federation of Afghan rebels opposed to the Taliban regime, soon began achieving impressive - and unexpected - military victories over Taliban forces and the al-Qaeda terrorists they had sponsored....

What would have made Danger Close: Tactical Air Controllers in Afghanistan and Iraq better?

A narrator with some feeling in his voice. Less political history and more stories of the actual air controller battle history. The narration was deadpan!

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

More battlefield action or technical explanation as to what it takes to bring various air assets on targets.

What didn’t you like about Claton Butcher’s performance?

    Deadpan and monotonous

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I found some of the stories to be excellent. I just wish someone else would have told them.

  • American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History

From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan ("the devil") and placed a bounty on his head.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The best story of the people, the environment, the skills and the mental toughness of our modern day fighters. Absolutely would have loved to meet this young man and thank him for his service. What a loss!!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Chris Kyle himself IS a true American Hero. There are many others...many! But he did his job and then some without brag or boast. He appreciates his fellow fighters no matter what arm of the service they come from as long as they are there to fight and win.

Which character – as performed by John Pruden – was your favorite?

    Again...Chris himself.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes, but could not.

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

I am so delighted that you have finally added the Unabridged version of this book. For those of us who love Diana Gabaldon's books, the abridged versions leave a lot to be desired. Please, please, please add the others in her series in unabridged as well. Davina Porter is the perfect choice for narrator and the unabridged version is fabulous. Thanks again.
