With a sharp eye for comic detail and a wicked ear for the absurdities of life, Dawn French shows just how an RAF girl from the west country with dreams of becoming a ballerina/bridesmaid/thief rose to become one of the best-loved comedy actresses of our time.

Dawn French covers many, many topics as she writes letters to friends, family and the dearly departed. Her correspondence to them creates a memoir that is vivid, funny and insightful. Wish she would have narrated, but understood why she didn't. Liza does a good job with it though. Highly recommended, especially if you are in need of some humor.

On February 14, 1989, Valentine's Day, Salman Rushdie was telephoned by a BBC journalist and told that he had been "sentenced to death" by the Ayatollah Khomeini. For the first time he heard the word fatwa. His crime? To have written a novel called The Satanic Verses, which was accused of being "against Islam, the Prophet and the Quran". So begins the extraordinary story of how a writer was forced underground, moving from house to house, with the constant presence of a police protection team.

Having never read any of Rushdie's books, I decided to take on this memoir based on his fame and well-known situation. First, I must say that the narrator was WONDERFUL. Second, I'm still listening. This is not a book to listen to in a rush or all at once. Best to listen for a bit at a time, so you can digest what you are receiving and roll it around in your mind before moving forward. Thoughtful. Intelligent. Profoundly human. Very entertaining in a subtle manner. I loved this one.

Lauren is downtown Chicago's youngest elite realtor. She's also a witch. She must be - the fetching spell for Witches' Chat isn't supposed to make mistakes. So says the woman who coded the spell, at least. The tall, dark, and handsome guy sent to assess her is a witch too (and no, that doesn't end the way you might think). What he finds in Lauren will change lives, mess with a perfectly good career, and require lots of ice cream therapy.

    Story

Enjoyed this one. Picked it up on the recommendation of a friend and found it quite entertaining. Nothing deep here -- the story doesn't create an all-encompassing world or prevent you from going to work because you just can't turn it off. Nonetheless, I had a good time listening, enjoyed the characters and their antics and look forward to reading or listening to the rest of the series.

I really enjoyed the narrator on this one. Unfortunately, I kept waiting for the main heroine to do something major or be someone wonderful. Instead, she was just sort of ... there. Aside from the limp heroine, the tale was entertaining enough. Just a so-so Heyer, in my opinion.

Ken Follett's World Without End was a global phenomenon, a work of grand historical sweep beloved by millions of readers and acclaimed by critics. Fall of Giants is his magnificent new historical epic. The first novel in The Century Trilogy, it follows the fates of five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they move through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for women's suffrage.

In 1665, a young man from Martha's Vineyard became the first Native American to graduate from Harvard College. Upon this slender factual scaffold, Brooks has created a luminous tale of love and faith, magic and adventure. The narrator of Caleb's Crossing is Bethia Mayfield, growing up in the tiny settlement of Great Harbor amid a small band of pioneers and Puritans. Restless and curious, she yearns after an education that is closed to her by her sex....

I'm a historical fiction fan and am always glad to find a new author with multiple books. This is my first of Ms. Brooks' books to hear or read. I was quickly drawn in to the story and enjoyed the rich descriptions of setting, period details and the characters. An intriguing storyline. Lovely narration by JE -- have always enjoyed the sound of her voice and she was an excellent pick for Bethia. The book ran like a movie in my head thanks to the wonderful author and narrator. A good 'un!

Set in the industrialising England of the Napoleonic wars, a period of bad harvests, Luddite riots, and economic unrest, Shirley is the story of two contrasting heroines and the men they love. One is the shy Caroline Helstone, trapped in the oppressive atmosphere of a Yorkshire rectory, whose life represents the plight of single women in the 19th century. The other is the vivacious Shirley Keeldar, who inherits a local estate and whose wealth liberates her from convention.

One of my very favorite audio books. Anna Bentick's narration is melodic and fits the prose so beautifully. The characters are wonderful. The story draws you in. It's languid and lengthy -- but worth hanging in there to reach its beautiful conclusion.

Robert Louis Stevenson's cherished, unforgettable adventure magically captures the thrill of a sea voyage and a treasure hunt through the eyes of its teenage protagonist, Jim Hawkins. Crossing the Atlantic in search of the buried cache, Jim and the ship's crew must brave the elements and a mutinous charge led by the quintessentially ruthless pirate Long John Silver. Brilliantly conceived and splendidly executed, it is a novel that has seized the imagination of generations of adults and children alike.

Was going by all the rave reviews on this one... but I just couldn't get into it. Hours along, I realized I didn't care about the characters, about any of the conflict going on and certainly didn't want to waste anymore time trying to like this audio book. Wasn't the narrators --- they were fine. The story just dragged. ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz. I suggest you go to the library and read the first couple chapters before you invest in its purchase as an audiobook. Wish I had.
