Heard it twice already - 2 months apart and was just as enjoyable second time around.
The storyline gave rise to a couple of topics that most readers would have an opinion on and generated discussion with friends.
When Harry refused to be swayed by the Doctors opinion.
No. It is a story that gives you 'pause' spots in the form of semi-endings or time out for personel reflection. None of this detracts from the flow and overall enjoyment of the story, but adds credibility to the story and it's characters.
Suspence, good story and excellent characterisation - looking forward to more
of Harry, just as I did Jack Reacher.
This is going to be a book I will listen too many times as it has superb characterisation, the narrator is amazing, and the story has romance, mystery, brotherly love, tears and laughter. For those who believe in the power of faith, the ending is (overly) perfect but nothing else would do. Too many favourite characters and special moments to choose from.
Please do yourself a favour and listen to this story. This is an audio book done with such perfection I would never spoil it by reading a hard copy.
Story had substance, interesting characters with depth and great interaction. The narrator takes this from being a good story to being a fantastic listen. (I will be looking for more of her work). I listened in one sitting - getting only one hours sleep for the night. Have since downloaded the second book which again was not put down until finished. This series has potential to be a favourite for many.
Connelly and Bosch continue to be my drug of choice. Addictive reading/listening. The Police Department is made up of many brotherhoods each making their specialist area's (i.e drug squad, forensics) elitist. Black Ice isn't the first book to show how this attitude can affect the outcome of investigations, but does so in a manner that adds to the characterisation of the major players. The summary tells you the storyline so if you are feeling modicum of interest at that, let me assure you, that the presentation in words and reading makes the story far more compelling.
Great crime story telling, Bosch has street smarts, not a trigger finger, and you feel as if you are riding alongside Harry as he voices his thoughts and observations for consideration.
If you've never read a Harry Bosch novel, this is a great one to start your addiction with Harry.
The story has action, suspense, intrigue, a lonely but charismatic character, more action, more suspense and interesting support characters. Twenty hours of listening, but I did it in one stint because it was impossible to put down.
He walked away from his job with a Govt endorsed but non-recognized organization, which no one walks away from. During his nine months under the radar, he settles into a life where he is in control and answerable to no one. Then he steps in and saves a hooker from being killed by her pimp. That one action starts a chain of events that culminate in him saving the life of the U.S.Secretary of State.
While aspects of the story may be typical of the covert ops action genre, it is enhanced by the special moments when our hero is reconciling his new life knowing his only employable skill is that of a killer.
Great characterization, great story and excellent narration.
Have read nearly everything Terry Pratchett has written and was looking forward to this book....was disappointed in that I failed to connect with any of the characters and by the fifth chapter found other things to do. Have persevered through another couple of chapters but still nothing to raise my steam.
The story is taut and holds interest past the book's end, leaving you in anticipation for the next one. One of those stories you could listen too several times. Michael Connelly writes a great story and Dick Hill does an excellent interpretation of Connelly's Harry Bosch yet, with subtle nuance's, gives the characterization more depth.
I don't write reviews unless the book is one I am proud to promote. In my reviews I do not write about the storyline - you can get that from the author.
Personal aside: Wonder what Jack Reacher and Harry Bosch would think about each other when meeting for the first time....lol
The author's ability to present his hero's strength of belief in God's calling, without denigrating or assuming the listeners religious preferences, It is a moving story that is about the power of faith without the distraction and disharmony of religion.
When he is woken to heed the calling and tells his very pregnant he must go,
A quiet confident voice, great characterisation and a sense of reality.
An interesting presentation of what some will catergorise as para-normal, but the author has handled the subject in such away that this 'calling' seems entirely credible.
Love the series
The fight with the other water dragon
You could read alone, but the first three books are just as good and introduces you to this man before he realises he is also a dragon, Series is a great romantic fantasy read.
I wasn't particularly cheering for the heroine, finding her younger sister someone a novel could be written about. Peter was the true hero of the story. as without his total comittment to support her, she would not have won.
Decided not to buy the rest of the series, but I am in the minority I believe.
