When Roderick Usher sends a letter begging his old schoolfriend to visit him, it becomes apparent that he is suffering from a severe mental illness caused by an extreme overload of his senses. His sister too is very ill, suffering from cataleptic deathlike trances. When Roderick announces that his sister has died, and they place her coffin in the vaults of the House of Usher for two weeks prior to burial, neither of them can imagine the horror which is to follow.Poe at his most macabre.

Poe's verbiage wafts through the air like the sound of a beautiful harp. His description of the Usher Manor paints a picture so clear that you can't help but feel you have been there. Could a tortuous haunting, so relentless, drive an inhabatant into madness?

Another exciting Jack Reacher adventure. Each time I pick one of these up on a Daily Deal I always think that it will be my last, but Lee Child has a great pen for action-adventure.

In this addition Jack finds himself knee deep in a covert mission where he is to extract an under cover operative that is caught up in a drug opperation, however, all things are not what they may seem. When he infiltrates and gains the trust of some of the players involved, he starts to realize that the whole convoluted mission leads him back into his past.

A lot of gun fights and the normal Reacher bravado, surrounded by some pretty interesting characters and a good, twisting plot. As always Dick Hill's narration added something extra to the story. I will be picking up the next Daily Deal in this series. It always keeps me wanting for more.

Fiver could sense danger. Something terrible was going to happen to the warren; he felt sure of it. They had to leave immediately. So begins a long and perilous journey of survival for a small band of rabbits. As the rabbits skirt danger at every turn, we become acquainted with the band, its humorous characters, and its compelling culture, complete with its own folk history and mythos.

    Story

This was a story that was written by Richard Adams specifically for his children who had outgrown books aimed at children. They were growing up and he wanted to keep their interest in books alive.

The whole book surrounds a group of bunnies and their adventure to find a better, safer life, however, the characters and their encounters are based on our human nature. The other warrens they come in contact with seem to be less civilized and without their moral compass, so they must keep moving. One of the bunnies in the group has the ability of second sight and keeps them moving toward their goal somewhat safely, but they still encounter fierce battles and dangerous missions. Bravery and stories of cunning by their ancestors help to keep them striving toward their goal.

It was exciting and you can't help but fall in love with these wonderful characters. It was beautifully written and narrated by Ralph Cosham, who also narrates the Three Pines series, one of the best. A classic for all ages.

Autumn has finally arrived in the small town of Bascom, North Carolina, heralded by a strange old man appearing with a beat-up suitcase. He has stories to tell, stories that could change the lives of the Waverley women forever. But the Waverleys have enough trouble on their hands. Quiet Claire Waverley has started a successful new venture, Waverley's Candies, but it's nothing like she thought it would be, and it's slowly taking over her life.

A great follow up to Garden Spells and I hated to see it end. A fantastic set of characters mixed with a cozy mystery. The first part of the book was mainly about Bay, one of the younger Waverley's, and how she and her special gifts are maturing. She has not been made privy to a back story that concerns her future and some old secrets are revealed. Claire has become a candy maker and people are clambering for her, sometimes life altering, wares except for the dark stranger who arrives in town. The Waverley's must band together to find out who he is, what he wants, and protect themselves from his bad intentions. A twist is added to the end that will affect them all in the next book.

Another great story filled with magical fun and of course the infamous Apple tree. The first blossoms are greatly anticipated by all except for maybe the men acquainted with the wonderful Waverley women. Highly looking forward to the next in the series. Sarah Addison Allen and narrator Susan Erickson make an enchanting pair.

From the day Caitlin vanishes the lives of her family members are irrevocably altered, each assuming blame for that day's tragic events. As the initial days of hope are replaced by weeks of anxiety and despair, they find themselves increasingly isolated, each wondering: Is she still alive? Will we ever know what happened?

A story about the hell a family endures after the disappearance of their daughter/sister, while on vacation in Colorado. They assume it is a kidnapping after their daughter chooses to get into a strangers truck during an emergency and then ends up missing. The story bounces around in a two year timeline and keeps you guessing until the end of where and what actually happened to the girl. The only character I related to was the girl and she had a very minor part. Some are comparing this book to "Gone Girl", however, for me it was very different except for my detachment from the characters.

The narration was excellent and added to the story. Xe Sands is one of my favorites and I was so glad that to see that she was part of this highly toughted new release.

Daniel James Brown's robust book tells the story of the University of Washington's 1936 eight-oar crew and their epic quest for an Olympic gold medal, a team that transformed the sport and grabbed the attention of millions of Americans. The sons of loggers, shipyard workers, and farmers, the boys defeated elite rivals first from eastern and British universities and finally the German crew rowing for Adolf Hitler in the Olympic games in Berlin, 1936.

There are many descriptions of this non-fiction read, however, what I found most interesting was that it gave a great deal of history about Washington, Oregon and has a sprinkle of Long Beach thrown in during the depression. It is very informative about what this group of men, their families, and their cities went through during that time. It also included history surrounding Germany's rise to power and how they hid what was actually going on during the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
It is a book about rowing which sounds boring but it is actually interesting and exciting.

This was one I picked up as a daily deal that was a very cute fantasy with many different characters from other dimensions. A fun twist on the mystical scale Skeeve is a magicians apprentice and when his master is killed he and his new master set out on a quest to find his killer. His new master is a hoot and you never know if he is telling the truth or not. Quite the little story teller. While cloaked in different appearances they go to different dimensions and pick up a few friends along the way. A great story for all ages and the narrator was very good with all the different voices. Highly recommend for the youguns.

Jazz is a likable teenager. But he's also the son of a (now incarcerated) infamous serial killer, and "Dear Old Dad" has taught Jazz everything he knows. But what Jazz doesn't know is whether or not he is destined to follow in his father's footsteps. He knows he has urges, but he also knows that he has a conscience, that he can follow his own path. And so, in an effort to right his father's wrongs, Jazz decides to help the police (although they don't know it yet) hunt down "The Impressionist" - a new serial killer in town.

    Story

A look at how a sadistc killer raised his boy. What a hellish childhood Jazz had and the fact that he came out of it half way sane is amazing to me. After his father goes to jail a copy cat killer is out there killing on his behalf and Jazz is helping the police by getting into his mind, so they may have a chance at stopping him. Jazz has some good friends that help him to remember who he is and a detective that always seems to be on his side.

A different twist on a serial killer case that was interesting but still very creepy. I felt sorry for Jazz because he will always have the fear of his dark side consuming him. Good narration and fast moving.

The scion of an old-money San Francisco family, Daniel Brasher left his well-paying, respectable money-manager position to marry his community organizer wife and work at a job he loves, leading group counseling sessions with recently paroled violent offenders. One night he finds an envelope - one intended for someone else that was placed in his office mailbox by accident. Inside is an unsigned piece of paper, a handwritten note that says, "Admit what you've done or you will bleed for it."

I enjoyed the premise of this murder mystery but it did remind me a bit of a movie staring Bruce Willis called "Color of Night". The characters were unique and the story kept up a good, fast pace throughout. Even though it had a somewhat predictable ending it was still exciting.
The author did a great job with the descriptions of the city of San Francisco. I used to live there and he brought back many memories for me. He showed just how diverse and beautiful the city is and how it has its own distinctly different weather pattern.
I would read more from this author should any come up as Daily Deals as this one was.

This was a great story of a good mans expedition to claim what was left to him after his sisters sudden death. He must travel from Europe to Tahiti with very little money. Because of his kindness to everyone, even strangers, he is gifted with unbelievable niceties. A good journey with many believable characters. A clean book with no violence, just a nice eventful story.
