I listen to books while running. I like fast, well written stories. I like the darker side of stories not sure why. I think I run faster.

The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

B.J. says: "A stunning achievement - for author and narrator"
"I abandoned the book. I couldn't do it."

What disappointed you about The Goldfinch?

It dragged on and dragged on some more. With hope I listened only to be 16 hours in and the book still finding it very long in the tooth.

Has The Goldfinch turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No.

What three words best describe David Pittu’s voice?

    Believable, innocent, sincere.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Theo is a wonderful character. I liked how he shared his thoughts, fears, concerns, and weighed the good and the bad.

    Any additional comments?

It's like running a bad race and sometimes it's a matter of continuing to finish or pull out of the race and move on. I moved on.
