In the summer of 1967, an Arctic hurricane trapped seven veteran climbers, members of Joe Wilcox's 12-man expedition, at 20,000 feet on Alaska's Mount McKinley. Ten days passed while the storm raged. Despite the availability of massive resources, no rescue was mounted, and all seven men died. The tragedy was one of the most controversial, bitterly contested, and mysterious tragedies in all of mountaineering history.

    "Absolutely addictive"

This book falls outside my normal genre, but with Scott Brick narrating and feeling adventurous I decided to give it a try and what a pleasant surprise it turned out to be. My wife and I were completely drawn in by the rich story telling and absolutely enthralled by the adventure itself - we found ourselves listening long into the night. Captivating, hypnotic, inspiring!!

Mikael Blomkvist, crusading journalist and publisher of the magazine Millennium, has decided to publish a story exposing an extensive sex trafficking operation between Eastern Europe and Sweden, implicating well-known and highly placed members of Swedish society, business, and government. On the eve of publication, the two reporters responsible for the story are brutally murdered.

    "Even better than 'Dragon Tattoo'!"
    Overall

Extremely well-written and plotted 2nd book in the trilogy. Superb narration. 18+ hours of pure delight. Very much looking forward to the third and last novel coming to US markets in October. Pity the author passed away with the 4'th and 5'th books unfinished...

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

One of the most enjoyable books I've stumbled across in over a year. Well-written, superb plot and intelligently appealing. Drew me in quickly and made me wish for long drives as I listen primarily in my car.

Quite formulaic and predictable, but safe if you enjoyed the earlier books.

When James Henry Trotter accidentally drops some magic crystals by the old peach tree, strange things start to happen. The peach at the top of the tree begins to grow, and before long it's as big as a house. Then James discovers a secret entranceway into the fruit, and when he crawls inside, he meets a bunch of marvelous oversized friends: Old-Green-Grasshopper, Centipede, Ladybug, Miss Spider, and more.

    Overall

This book kept our whole family (me, my wife and boys 7, 5 and 3) listening with rapped attention for a long minivan drive over Memorial day weekend. Jeremy Irons does a marvellous reading and the story is of course top notch also - kids listened mesmerized and great fun for the grownups too! In fact, we loved is so much that we listened to it again on the drive home. Highly recommended. :-)

When a band of backwoods hunters crash a corporate retreat in the wilderness, executives find themselves held hostage by men who will do anything to get the largest ransom in history. The corporate big shots hadn't wanted junior exec Jake Landry there. But now he's the only one who can save them.

Art says: "I really wanted to give it four stars!"
    "Corporate Die Hard"
    Overall

I'm a big fan of Joseph Finder's previous work having stumbled across 'Paranoia' a while back and eagerly listened to all his books since then. While this latest work is definitely worth a listen, I think it is worth noting that Finder is slowly moving away from pure corporate drama towards more action based themes. This trend began with Company Man, continued through Killer Instinct and is definitely evindent in Power Play; the latter still being rooted in a corporate theme, but being mostly an action thriller along the lines of McGuyver or Die Hard. Great story, but more of a shoot-them-up than some may have hoped for based on earlier work, hence the 4/5 stars.
