Archie's life has disintegrated. Fresh from a dead marriage, middle-aged Archie stretches out a vacuum hose, seals up his car and prepares to die. But unbeknownst to him, his darkest hour is also his luckiest day. With the opening of a butcher's shop, his life is saved and soon he is on his way to beginning a new life with a young Jamaican woman looking for the last man on earth.

    Susan says: "Superb narration"
    "Awful"

Apostate. Awful. I started reading because of the reviews. It contains a lot of unnecessary language. It was a little weird and then it got into religion. Not what I listen for.

At the age of 22, Jennifer Worth left her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in postwar London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she met while delivering babies all over London - from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lived to the woman with 24 children who couldn't speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side - illuminate a fascinating time in history.

Kathy says: "This is one I didn't want to put down!"
    "Wouldn't recommend."

What would have made Call the Midwife better?

If she would have left out the one disgusting scene in the brothel I would have recommended the book. It wasn't important or necessary. Why do we have to be treated to filth? Especially in a book that was supposed to about joy and wholesomeness.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Call the Midwife?

Cut the filth. The brothel scene.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

    Nothing.

Would you ever listen to anything by Christine Feehan again?

    No.

What didn???t you like about Alyssa Bresnahan???s performance?

The reading was fine. I would not have chosen to read witchcraft.

You didn???t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Easy to listen to. This is witch craft, not fantasy.

  • Getting Stoned with the Savages: A Trip through the Islands of Fiji and Vanuatu

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 30 mins)

    Story

After two grueling years on the island of Tarawa, Troost was in no hurry to return to the South Pacific until he began to feel remarkably out of place in modern America. He knew it was time to set off again for parts unknown. Here he tells the story of his time on Vanuatu, a cluster of islands where he struggles against typhoons, earthquakes, and giant centipedes but finds himself swept up in the laid-back, clothing-optional lifestyle of the islanders.

    L. Worthington says: "My new favorite author!"
    "Don't bother"
    Overall

This was more a review of different drugs than a novel.
