  • The Martian

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 53 mins)
    • By Andy Weir
    • Narrated By R. C. Bray
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?"

Michael G. Kurilla says: "Macgyver on Mars"
    "This is science fiction"
If you could sum up The Martian in three words, what would they be?

When I think of science fiction I think about science and it's possibilities and foibles, no dragons, fairies or magic. This is the real deal.

What did you like best about this story?

The character had character and the next step was always a puzzle. If I taught math or physics I would use this book for my class.

What about R. C. Bray’s performance did you like?

Great, hard to believe it was one person. Wonderful job R.C. .

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Adapt or die.

    Any additional comments?

Science Fiction is hard to write. This young man has a great future as a writer. This is a true Science Fiction book. Looking forward to his next book.

  • The River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt's Darkest Journey

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 18 mins)
    • By Candice Millard
    • Narrated By Paul Michael
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

At once an incredible adventure narrative and a penetrating biographical portrait, The River of Doubt is the true story of Theodore Roosevelt's harrowing exploration of one of the most dangerous rivers on earth.

    "A Story of Courage"

I enjoyed the book very much. The research and the various asides offered much information about South America that never knew, I became aware of how much I have missed and how my ignorance, like the ignorance of my Grandfathers continues to cost the inhabitants and the creatures of the rain forest.
Very well read. A fast paced, well conceived adventure story that happens to be true. Kept my interest to the end.

  • Water for Elephants

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 26 mins)
    • By Sara Gruen
    • Narrated By David LeDoux, John Randolph Jones
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

    Kindle Customer says: "Great Narration!!"
    "A Wonder-filled Story"

Well read and well written, are the first thoughts I have about this book. The author and the readers capture the experience of the characters and the plot is well done from beginning to end. A story about hope, love, grief and change. I will recommend it to all persons working with the elderly because it illustrates the importance of hearing the the story that every person has to tell.
    It will leave you smiling.
