Joan Bennet has endured four Seasons without a single suitor or serious flirtation, let alone a marriage proposal. She's had just about enough of being a respectable wallflower and is giving serious thought to embarking on a life of sin, or at least lascivious adventure like the ones described in a popular scandalous book. When she meets her brother's favorite drinking mate, Viscount Burke, it seems her hopes of adventure might be answered . . .

What did you love best about Love and Other Scandals?

She was opinionated, and outspoken as a child, and never changed her tone as an adult, especially during the late 1900s when women could not own property and considered property themselves.

She needed to find a husband ASAP. Her aunt taught her how to dress "HER FIGURE", which was very different than her mother's petite figure. Her aunt gave her self-dignity, self-respect, and taught her how to dress according to her figure.

What other book might you compare Love and Other Scandals to and why?

So many of Danielle Steele's books because they focus on empowerment of women, no matter what the immediate circumstance.

Have you listened to any of Veida Dehmlow’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No. Do not compare.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, when she saw herself in a dress that fit her figure and changed her hairstyle.
She finally felt beautiful and every woman deserves that feeling.
All of a sudden, she was noticed, admired, however, never lost her "mouthiness"! Hooray for the women of "yester-year", whose shoulders we "independent, out-spoken women stand on in 2014!

I WAS TAKEN ON AN ADVENTURE IN SO MANY UNEXPECTED WAYS. HER AUNT BECAME A CRITICAL PART OF THIS BOOK BY BEING HONEST, LOVING, REAL, BUT KEPT HER "OUT OF HARMS WAY"....

A brutally honest memoir of talent, addiction, and recovery from one of the greatest baseball pitchers of all time. As a shy 19-year-old, Dwight Gooden swept into New York, lifting a team of crazy characters to World Series greatness and giving a beleaguered city a reason to believe. Then he threw it all away. Now, with fresh and sober eyes, the Mets’ beloved Dr. K shares the intimate details of his life and career, revealing all the extraordinary highs and lows: The hidden traumas in his close-knit Tampa family. The thrill and pressure of being a young baseball phenom in New York.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

No because it was his life story. Recommend getting to the point, instead of giving play by play of too many baseball games. Mentioned almost all his team-members on an ongoing bases. This took away from his story, which was about addiction, tolerance that athlete's are given by EVERYBODY, and HIS ABUSE OF HIS OWN FAMILY THAT HE SWEARS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO HIM.

He did not treat his family with love and respect.

I WAS ANGRY READING THE ENTIRE BOOK!
HE COMES ACROSS AS "POOR ME", INSTEAD OF ACTING LIKE A REAL GROWN UP.

Would you be willing to try another book from Dwight Gooden and Ellis Henican ? Why or why not?

No, because I get so tired of these athletes given special treatment from 18 years +, and no matter how much they screw-up their lives, they have a BUILT IN SAFETY NET. They never live in the REAL WORLD, like the rest of us.
Even the legal system gave him breaks that they would have NEVER GIVEN ANY OTHER BLACK MAN IN THESE UNITED STATES.

What three words best describe J. D. Jackson’s voice?

Not focused on the voice. Being read to with clarity.

I WAS ANGRY LISTENING TO THE ENTIRE BOOK.

Did Doc inspire you to do anything?

NO! he was allowed to be great, have lots of kids that he never took care of on a day-to-day basis, but continued to say how much he loved them. HOW?? You were not present in their lives.
He ALWAYS had someone come to his rescue and NEVER GAVE BACK TO HIS BLACK COMMUNITY.
LIKE MOST, HE CAME ACROSS AS THE VICTIM, AND CONTINUED TO BE SELFISH, SELF-CENTERED AND SELF-ABSORBED. EVERYONE, INCLUDING JUDGES HELD HIM IN HIGH ESTEEM BECAUSE HE COULD THROW A BASEBALL.

I got tire of him constantly talking about the details of so many games and player names.

We need to focus on education of young black men in this country and stop using them.
I am not even convinces he loved baseball.

It is frustrating because the rest of us do not have expensive an attorney, a franchise backing, women willing to look the other way, and a support system that makes sure you land in nice "DIGGS/CAR", WHEN YOU GOT OUT!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, because it really makes you think at a different level

Who was your favorite character and why?

Everybody because it was about community and taking care of each-other. The village mentally that our nation has strayed away from over the last 15 years.

Have you listened to any of Susan Gregg’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but she is a great reader. I liked her voice and the background music. She came across with sincerity.

Her goal is to share what she had experienced and learned. Expose the reader to another perspective.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

of course not. This book took me on a journey of insight, and resolve. Food for thought from the wisdom of "Our elders" - who have survived their journey to share their knowledge, so maybe, the next generation can learn from their mistakes.

What disappointed you about Ask and It Is Given, Volume 1?

Had a CULT feeling to it, therefore, I lost interest early and never finished Volume 1, and it was expensive.
It was recommended in an episode of Being Mary Jane (BET). So I looked it up and purchased it immediately. NOT IMPRESSED at all...
They sounding crazy, hearing voices, and people speaking through then from it sounding like another planet.
Sounded like they were worshiping something other than Holy Trinity (God the father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit)....

Would you ever listen to anything by Esther Hicks and Jerry Hicks again?

NO. I was even thinking about asking for a refund.....

How did the narrator detract from the book?

    they sounded crazy and weird

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

None that I could think of, but I stopped reading very early because I am a Christian and did not feel comfortable with their presentation and belief system

Since her long-ago divorce, she’s worked hard to reach the pinnacle of her profession and to create a camera-ready life in her Fifth Avenue penthouse. So why is she so depressed? All the hours with her personal trainer, the careful work of New York’s best hairdressers, cosmetic surgeons, and her own God-given bone structure and great looks can’t fudge the truth or her lies about it: Valerie is turning sixty.

What did you like best about this story?

Accepting the consequences of her one night fling. Choice and Courage to keep the baby, tell the father, and her family.

What does Angela Dawe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love people reading to me, so I no longer have the pressure to read and comprehend at the same time.
The reader of any book needs to be clearly understood, and pace their reading to keep the listener engaged.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The baby daddy's horrible childhood and his kid brother committing suicide.
He had never seen another version of mothers, fathers and step-parents co-exist in a loving way toward their children.
He went to therapy, which is very unusual for men in our society, which was really cool, cause they have issues to overcome, just like women.

Would you listen to The Unremarkable Heart and Other Stories again? Why?

No, never again. They were dark, sadistic, and scary.

    too weird for my tastes.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Did not enjoy any of the stories, but decided to finish the book, since I purchased it.
Way out of my league- Too twisted and gory

    Which scene was your favorite?

None of them because I was not expecting horror and scary short stores. I will never read this book again.

Who was the most memorable character of The Unremarkable Heart and Other Stories and why?

None of them because I was not expecting horror and scary short stores. I will never read this book again.

    Any additional comments?

I gave this book a 5 rating because it delivered exactly what it was suppose to. I think the title was misleading, but each of the short stories was graphic, some sadistic and others scary.
It took me a couple of days to forget about the horrible stories, but the writing was excellent, if you like scary, and horror books. I do not.

What did you love best about Toxic Bachelors?

The three men were from different backgrounds, but had unique pain that bonded them together.
Loyalty and acceptance of their different personalities

What other book might you compare Toxic Bachelors to and why?

It was a unique story because you learn Men have feelings, and are more vulnerable that society leads us to believe.

These men gave us women an insight into how some men deal with the cards they are dealt with in life, regardless of your position in life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I love Danielle Steele's writing style. She moves through the story and allows you to fill in some parts with your own imagination. I am never board with any of her books.

The focus on male friendships. The story-line was unique and interesting.

For two years, Megan, Peter, and their two older daughters, Alexis and Hannah, dream of nothing but being reunited with the family’s youngest child, Emma, who was kidnapped just before her third birthday. When Emma is miraculously found living with an elderly couple just miles from the family’s home, they are hopeful that her return will heal the wounds her disappearance created. But Emma is vastly different from the sunny toddler they remember. She barely remembers her parents or her older sisters. She is quiet and withdrawn, and, worst of all, longs for the very people who kidnapped her.

    Story
What made the experience of listening to Emma's Secret the most enjoyable?

Having a daughter and knowing that FEAR to keep your babies safe

What did you like best about this story?

Finding out that Emma's 5 years away from her FAMILY was happy and loving.
    Relating to her mother's feelings.
Knowing that is every mother's worst nightmare.
The siblings individual reactions to the entire series of events from start to finish because of their ages. How their lives were impacted.

Have you listened to any of Kate Rudd’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No sure, but my focus is always on the story and the clarity of the readers.

Who was the most memorable character of Emma's Secret and why?

The innocent Grandpa, who loved his wife and accepted her story about Emma,
He lost the love of his life and his granddaughter at the same time. Plus, lived with the stigma of "kidnapping" allocation. His guilt of not asking better questions when his wife came home with this child.

    Any additional comments?

In the end, Emma was able to see her Grandpa, and the family was able to forgive and be grateful that their story was not tragic, like so many other families that deal with these circumstances every day.
