To me George R Martin is the best fantasy writer. Though I love his books, the speaker in this audiobook is even better. He makes the characters come so alive, I seem to know them better than most of my friends (no joke!).
I stopped rereading the books and only listen to them.

In this prequel to The Sword of Shannara, in which many details of the Four Lands' history are revealed, Druids, horrified by the misuse of magic, have eschewed it in favor of science. But Bremen the Druid studies magic, and becomes an outcast on its account. Bremen discovers that an invincible army of trolls are fast conquering all that lay to their south. Before them come the Nazgul-like Skull Bearers, disfigured and transformed Druids who have fallen prey to the dark arts.

    "Wrong Speaker"
    Overall

Audiobooks depend greatly on the speaker. A good speaker can turn a bad story into a great experience. The same holds true for the reverse, though.
This speaker speaks clearly, he is easy to understand but he makes every sentence an epic event, dulling dramatic events. All characters sound the same and I just can't concentrate on him.
If you do not know what I mean, try one of the first three audio books of George R. Martins Saga.

All is well until he has a life-changing encounter with Simon Lovelace, a magician of unrivaled ruthlessness and ambition. When Lovelace brutally humiliates Nathaniel in public, Nathaniel decides to speed up his education, teaching himself spells far beyond his years. With revenge on his mind, he masters one of the toughest spells of all and summons Bartimaeus, a five-thousand-year-old djinni, to assist him.

"Not too well suited for an audiobook"
    Overall

The speaker does a very good job, but I find this kind of book not too well suited for an audiobook and don't intend to listen to the sequels (will read them, though).

Ever read Robert Jordan and wondered what it would be like to listen to a gleeman?
Well, Roy Dotrice certainly earns this title. The narrator is even better than the author and together they combine an iresistable combination that got me hooked on audio books.
