Recruited to help the FBI and the Immigration and Naturalization Service perform the nearly impossible, Lincoln and Amelia track down a cargo ship headed for New York City carrying two dozen illegal Chinese immigrants, as well as the notorious human smuggler and killer known as "the Ghost". But when the Ghost's capture goes disastrously wrong, Lincoln and Amelia find themselves in a race against time.

Good book and I loved the twist. The narrator did an awesome job!

Lincoln Rhyme is back, on the trail of a killer whose weapon of choice cripples New York City with fear. The weapon is invisible and omnipresent. Without it, modern society grinds to a halt. It is electricity. The killer harnesses and steers huge arc flashes with voltage so high and heat so searing that steel melts and his victims are set afire.

    Bob says: "A good read"
    "Happy about the ending"
    Overall

I guess due to me reading the whole series, I knew what to expect but I like the narrator and the book. Very happy about the ending. Excited to get the next in the series...if there is going to be one.

From the best selling author of The Bone Collector and Devil's Teardrop comes this spine-chilling new thriller that pits renowned criminalist Lincoln Rhyme against the ultimate opponent - Amelia Sachs, his own brilliant protégé.

Jody R. Nathan says: "Good story; some problems"
    "Wow...the mystery never ends"
    Overall

Narration was good and entertaining for the characters other than Rhyme and Sachs. The twist went all the way to the very end of the bood which was great. Wow...how does Deaver do it? Good job.

  • The Bodies Left Behind

    Story

The Bodies Left Behind is an epic cat-and-mouse chase, told nearly in real-time, and is filled with Deaver's patented twists and turns, where nothing is what it seems, and death lingers just around the next curve on a deserted path deep in the midnight forest.

    Deb says: "very disapointing"
    "LOVED IT!"
    Overall

OH HOW I WOULD LOVE TO MAKE THIS INTO A MOVIE!! My first Deaver novel and now I can't stop listening to them. I've listened to this twice! I love the suspense of this book! Very, very good and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

John Pellam had been in the trenches of film making, with a promising Hollywood career - until a tragedy sidetracked him. Now he's a location scout, who travels the country in search of shooting sites for films. When he rides down Main Street, locals usually clamor for their chance at 15 minutes of fame. But in a small town in upstate New York, Pellam experiences a very different reception.

Mary says: "Another winner for Deaver."
    "Not a Pellam fan"
    Overall

First book I listen to in this series. Not feeling the character and didn't care much for the story. Maybe after listening to Lincoln Rhyme novels, Pellam just doesn't do it for me.

  • The Coffin Dancer: A Novel

    • ABRIDGED (5 hrs and 16 mins)
    • By Jeffery Deaver
    • Narrated By Joe Mantegna
    Overall
    (115)
    Performance
    (60)
    Story
    (62)

NYPD criminalist Lincoln Rhyme joins his beautiful protégé, Amelia Sachs, in the hunt for the Coffin Dancer - an ingenious killer who changes appearance even faster than he adds to his trail of victims. They have only one clue: the madman has a tattoo of the Grim Reaper waltzing with a woman. Rhyme must rely on his wits and intuition to track the elusive murderer through New York City - knowing they have only 48 hours before the Coffin Dancer strikes again.

    Kirsten says: "Too Short"
"Good book, not a fan of the narrator"
    Overall

After listening to some of the other Lincoln Rhymes books before this one, my ideas of how Rhyme and Sachs personalities are is nothing like how this narrator's voice is in this book and The Empty Chair. Although, I liked this narrator in The Cold Moon...or maybe I was use to him by then. Mr. Mantegna seems like more of a romance novel reader.
