In this engaging collection of essays, author and athlete John Jerome celebrates the simplicity and freedom of running. With contagious passion, he strips away fads and myths to offer basic guidelines for participants, from beginning joggers to those preparing for marathons. For years Jerome recorded his thoughts and experiences during his daily training. As he ran, he discovered not only physical benefits, but philosophical ones as well.

What would have made The Elements of Effort better?

I'm not sure what annoyed me more - the narrator's voice or the story line. To me it seemed conceited....

Gretchen Rubin had an epiphany one rainy afternoon in the unlikeliest of places: a city bus. "The days are long, but the years are short," she realized. "Time is passing, and I'm not focusing enough on the things that really matter." In that moment, she decided to dedicate a year to her happiness project.

A refreshing reminder of how small incremental improvements can change our lives. This is not a self-help book but an inspirational journey. Beautiful narration and I loved Rubin's attention to referencing her claims and discoveries.
I listened to it once and then immediately listened to it again with my husband. We both loved it.

Which animal would he most like to be? What creature lays 'the biggest egg in the world'? How do you communicate with an ancient nomadic community in Fiji? And what did Sir David do when confronted by a ten-foot-long reptile?

Attenborough is a master in communicating biological science and just thoroughly entertaining. I listened to this book on my morning commute and arrived at working feeling as though I had been at a dinner party listening to an wonderfully interesting guest!
