I had stopped with the series after Drums because of the reviews on the abridged version of The Fiery Cross. I decided to try again a couple of weeks ago and found that the abridged version had become unavailable. Checked back today and you can imagine how wonderful it was to see the book recorded not only in an unabridged version but also narrated by Davina Porter. All I can say is that it is about time!
This book is not as good as the first three but trying to figure out who was who was even worse. The voices for the different characters were not the same as well as the way some of their names were pronounced. What was the publisher thinking when they allowed this huge flaw!
Yes, I realize that this is historical fiction but these books give you a little glimpse of what 18th century life was like for women. Adventure without packing and a mindless afternoon while sitting by the ocean - what could be better.
I really enjoyed this interesting look into the Scottish Clans and their demise. Loved the narrative with the proper Gaelic pronunication. I am now listening to the second book in the series. I would recommend this book as a romantic historical novel that brings real character to the fate of the Scots.
I tried six times to listen to this book, I even tried to read it. Each time I fell fast asleep.
