The Summons: Once Judge Atlee was a powerful figure in Clanton, Mississippi. Now the judge is a sick, lonely old man who has withdrawn to his sprawling ancestral home. Knowing the end is near, Judge Atlee has issued a summons for his two sons to return to Clanton to discuss his estate. The Brethren: They call themselves the Brethren: three disgraced former judges doing time in a Florida federal prison. In prison these judges-turned-felons can reminisce about old court cases, dispense a little jailhouse justice, and contemplate where their lives went wrong. Or they can use their time in prison to get very rich, very fast.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I was looking for the longest John Grisham book I could purchase. I wanted an epic escape. I found it in these two books. Frank Muller was my "first" narrator,so to me, he is the perfect Grisham narrator.
However, I will now seek out more by Michael Beck, as he is now a favorite.

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

I avoided this book as I did not think it would keep my attention, but I absolutely enjoyed the adventure and intrigue ! Just LISTEN TO IT !!!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This voice was not for me. Just could not get into the story.

Has Carnal Innocence turned you off from other books in this genre?

I am forever a fan of Nora, but this peformance did not grab me into the story.

How could the performance have been better?

    Different voice

Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five.... Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Being a devout Grisham fan, I have high expectations. As usual, it took some ground work, but once the action and story started to unfold.....it was captivating! I cared about the characters and was intrigued and entertained as it all unfolded.
